My wife also descends from this family, through William Lawrence's son William Jr. (a child of Wm. Sr.'s first marriage to Elizabeth Gildersleeve). I am finding a lot of conflicting data on the ancestry of William Sr., and I am wondering which (if any of it) is proven. Several sources give Wm. Sr. (the immigrant)'s parents as Thomas Lawrence and Joane Antrobus. However, a significant minority of sources say that Wm. Sr. was the son of Henry Lawrence and Amy Peyton. If you go with the first theory, there still is no agreement; I've found Thomas Lawrence (m. Joane Antrobus) with _three_ sets of parents -- John Lawrence and Margaret Robertes, John Lawrence and Elizabeth Bull, and William Lawrence and Katherine Beaumont. While I've been doing genealogy for many years, I've just started to sort out the Lawrences, so I have few primary references on this family.
