Elizabeth Steele, b. abt. 1800. buried Olanta, SC Susannah was the daughter of Joseph Lewis Benton b. abt 1746 and Leucretia Cove b. 9/1752 Joseph and Leucretia Benton came to the Darlington District, South Carolina from North Carolina. Some people believe that Joseph was the brother of Col. Lemuel Benton. Both Joseph and Leucretia are believed buried in Effingham, SC. Susannah and several siblings were born in Darlington, the rest following 1765 were born in Effingham, Marion County, SC. Susannah Benton Thomas’ sibling, Rachel Thomas b. 7/7/1789 d. 9/26/1855; married Benjamin F.
