The most well known (perhaps infamous) is the John Lawrence book which purports to record the ancestors and descendants of John Lawrence of Wisset, Suffolk, England from around 1600. The ancestry part is recognized as false, but much of the descendant information is traceable to various town, church, cemetery, etc. records in Massachusetts and other New England states. The John Lawrence book is out of print, but available in photocopy through the NEHGS or probably directly from the publisher (Higgins, I think) or from used book sellers on the net.
