Linda, Here is the info I have on the Newton Scott Lawrence in our line: He was the son of Elias Lawrence and Mary Rice. I believe he was born 1 Oct 1844 in Enosburgh, Franklin Co, VT and died in 1926 in Magnolia, Harrison Co, IA. When he was a young man, he and his two brothers, Henry Munroe Lawrence and Silas Rice Lawrence (as well as several of their Rice relatives), left Vermont to travel westward into the wilderness, settling in Magnolia, IA. He married Luella Norris (date unknown). She was born 1847 in Vermont and died 1905 in Magnolia, IA. They had 5 children: Harry (b. abt 1870), Eveline (b. abt 1871), Gertrude (b. abt 1874), Fannie (b. abt 1876), and Ruth (b. 1779). He, Luella and the children are found in Magnolia in the 1880 census (I haven't checked any other census years for that family). He is listed as a Magnolia Township landowner in the Harrision County, Iowa GenWeb Project. Newton and Luella, his brother Silas, and his father Elias and 2nd wife Julia are buried in the Magnolia Cemetery (gravestone records copied by W.P.A.
