    3. Is there really a proven descent from Ashton Hall? -----Original Message----- From: Paul E. Lawrence <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, April 01, 2002 1:06 PM Subject: Re: [LAWRENCE-L] Lawrence hoax You are correct about the Somerby work. However, Schuyler Lawrence did not repeat it. In fact he disagreed with it. In Schuyler's Communication to the Editor of the New England Historic-Genealogical Society in December 1935, he states "My researches show that the pedigrees by H. G. Somerby and others, widely published and accepted, are incorrect and indefensible for the first ten generations at least." This communication can be found on microfilm in the LDS Library. Schuyler also published a manuscript of his research on the Lawrences of which only two copies supposedly exist in the US, one at the Library of Congress (which I have tried to find on several occasions and it cannot be found) and the other at the NYC Public Library Main Branch which does exist on microfilm and I have seen and copied. Some of Schulyer's research is based on the "Victoria History of Lancashire" which can be found on microfilm at the Library of Congress. Another source for information on some of these Lawrences is Herald and Genealogist by Nichols, vol. II, IV, and VIII, which can also be found at the Library of Congress. I'm not all that familiar with the descendants of the Lawrences who came to New England as my research as been centered on descendants of Robert Lawrence who came to Isle of Wight Co., VA, and is also descended from the Lawrences of Ashton Hall. Some of the above is discussed on my web site along with pictures of my visit to Ashton Hall in 2000. The URL for my site is at the end of the message. At 11:38 PM 3/29/2002 -0700, you wrote: >H. G.
