Rick My Edwin Lawrence was a shoemaker according to the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records. So far as I know, he did not leave New York until very late in life when he lived with one of his sons in Newark, New Jersey. Edwin's grandson, Eldemora Lawrence, "went south" around 1920 but I don't know where. Good luck in your search.
