    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: High, Lawrence, McDaniel, Dixon, and Cotton Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DAw.2ACIB/2303 Message Board Post: I am seeking information about my g-grandfather, Dr. John High of Oktibbeha County, MS. He is shown in the 1880 US Census report as being a 32-year old physician in Oktibbeha County. And he is shown in that census report as being in the household of Robert Cotton in 1880. That would indicate Dr. High was born Abt. 1848. His birthplace is shown as Alabama. Within a few years after that census was taken, Dr. High was married to Mary Anna Lawrence. They had three children, the first of whom was my grandfather, Marvin Merritte High (1884-1960). The other two children (my grandaunt Dovie Pearl High and my granduncle John High) were born in 1886 and 1888 respectively. I am theorizing that Dr. High was in the household of Robert Cotton because Robert Cotton was married to Mary Narcissa High who was apparently the first child of Mark Mitchell High and his second wife, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dixon. The first child born to Mark Mitchell High and his first wife, Clara McDaniel, was apparently McDaniel Monroe "Daniel" High who was born Bef. 1854. Since he appears to have been the first child of Mark Mitchell High who was born 27 Oct 1805, it is likely that Daniel High was born Abt. 1825-1830 when his father was 20-25. So, Dr. High may have been in the Cotton household in 1880 because Robert Cotton's wife Mary Narcissa High Cotton was either: (1) Dr. High's sister, or (2) Dr. High's aunt. 1. Theory 1: Mary Narcissa High Cotton was Dr. High’s Sister. In this theory, Dr. John High (b. Abt. 1848 in Alabama) and Mary Narcissa High (b. 4 Mar 1855 in Alabama) would have both been children of Mark Mitchell High (b. Abt. 1805) and his second wife, Elizabeth Dixon (birth year unknown). 2. Theory 2: Mary Narcissa High Cotton was Dr. High’s Aunt: In this theory, Dr. High would have been a child of McDaniel Monroe “Daniel” High who was a child of Mark Mitchell High and his first wife, Clara McDaniel. Daniel High was Mary Narcissa High Cotton’s older, half-brother (same father, different mother). Any information that might provide clues to Dr. High’s and/or Mary Lawrence's ancestry and/or that could either help prove or disprove either of the above two theories would be very welcomed and appreciated. Thanks. Robert Merritte “Bob” Webb Grandson of Marvin Merritte High, and Great grandson of Dr. John High
