From the Daily Ardmoreite published in Ardmore, Pickens County, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, later Carter County, Oklahoma. Tuesday, October 29, 1895 Mother and Son One of the saddest sights ever beheld in Gainesville was to be seen at the Katy deport this morning. The remains of MRS. ELIZABETH LAWRENCE and her son DAVID N. LAWRENCE arrived on the early south bound Santa Fe this morning on their way to Whitesboro for interment. The deceased parties had lived at Wynnewood, I. T., for the past two or three years and there were only a few hours difference in their deaths. A few months ago, MRS. LAWRENCE, who was over 74 years old, was stricken with paralysis and was stopping with a relative, ROBERT MAXWELL, three miles from Wynnewood. Last Saturday night she grew suddenly worse and sent a messenger for her son D. W. LAWRENCE who was engaged in the mercantile business at Wynnewood. He hired a hack and started to see his mother, but unfortunately, the driver let the vehicle upset throwing him out and injuring him in such a way, it terminated fatally at 7:00 Sunday morning. His mother lingered until 12:00 Saturday night. Only seven hours elapsed between the deaths of the mother and her son, and their remains were interred at Whitesboro, their old home, this afternoon. Mrs. Lawrence was one of the leading members of the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Whitesboro, and few, if any more kind hearted Christian ladies ever lived in Texas. D. M. LAWRENCE was well known throughout north Texas and the Indian Territory, a more upright and honorable man and Christian gentleman never lived anywhere. The family moved to Whitesboro from Dallas County in 1871, having emigrated from Middle Tennessee the year before. Mrs. LAWRENCE leaves four children: NEWTON and JAMES who live at Wynnewood and Mrs. Dr. CHANDLER of Greenville and MRS. HENDRIX of Dallas. The deceased son D. M. LAWRENCE leaves a sorrowing wife and seven children to mourn his loss. The sorrowing relatives together with their many friends came down with the remains this morning to attend the funeral. DAVID LAWRENCE was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, also the Knights of Pythias and Knights of Honor. Each of the orders were represented in the funeral procession this morning. Fully 30 people from Wynnewood accompanied the remains. Printed in the Gainesville Register. Wednesday, October 30, 1895 MRS. W. R. MACKEY passed through on the morning train en route to her home at Wynnewood from Whitesboro where she had been with the remains of her father, DAVID M. LAWRENCE, and her grandmother, both of whom died last Sunday morning.
