Lawrence, 79, of Main Street, died Feb. 16, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born May 20, 1922, in AuSable Forks, the son of Howard and Bessie (Hopkins) Lawrence. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the army in the 386th Bombardment Group. He was employed as a teller at the National Commercial Bank and Trust Co., and then became branch manager for 35 years retiring as assistant vice president of the Key Bank in AuSable Forks in 1982. Fran was president and then treasurer of the AuSable Forks Rotary Club, troop master of Boy Scouts Troop 39 in Plattsburgh, and a member of the AuSable Forks High School Alumni. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Wright Lawrence of Keeseville, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1946, in AuSable Forks. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Francis James Jr. and Diane Lawrence of Philadelphia, Pa., and Marc Lawrence of Vero Beach, Fla; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Michael Boire of Plattsburgh and Marianne and Jerry Richards of Lubback, Texas; four grandchildren, Heather Williams, Christopher Lawrence, Matthew and Jason Boire; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Roland Dorothy Spring of Wilmington; a brother, Howard Lawrence of Redford; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A brother, Robert Lawrence, predeceased him. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the AuSable Forks United Methodist Church, AuSable Forks. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, AuSable Forks. The family requests memorials to him be made to the AuSable Forks Rotary Scholarship Fund to the AuSable Forks Rotary Clube, in care of Wilfred Rushia, Church Street, AuSable Forks, 12912.
