All I know about my Peter Lawrence is that he was born in 1827 in Sumter SC and his Father's name was Benjamin Lawrence. Don't have any idea who his mother was. She is believed to have died before he came to GA(sometime between 1850 & 1860) because he had a step brother named "Thigpen" who came to Early Co with him, his brother and sister. After his 1st wife died and he remarried, we lost track of him. His 1st wife died giving birth to twins which he gave up for adoption, even though there were several older children who could have cared for them. Family stories go that his 2nd wife was a "mean" step-mother so his daughter Florine who was my GR Grandmother ran away from home and married young to get away from her. The 2nd wife had some children who may have gone to Alabama. Don't know when Peter died or where he is buried. What county is Muscovia in? Diana -----Original Message----- From: Harriet E. Lawrence's parents My great grandfather, James Patterson Lawrence, was born circa 1839 in Muscovia GA. He served in the Civil War and died 1923 in Tazewell Co VA. His origins have eluded hired professional genealogists for many years; but, supposedly, his parents were Abel Lawrence bc 1830 and Elizabeth Unknown. Could these families be related? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Diana Pate" <dannypate@alltel.net> To: <LAWRENCE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 18, 2006 5:37 PM Subject: RE: [LAWRENCE] Re: John W. Diana: Below is information that I found on Larry Smith's coalexchange.com. site about my James Patterson Lawrence. I am not sure if there actually was a Muscovia GA during that era. I have often thought that the reverse may be true: He was living in Macon GA and was born in Muscovia Georgia, which is part of the Ukraine. I have not researched yet to see if he is an immigrant, but will do some checking soon. When there is no obvious paper trail, I develop all sorts of theories and then work to eliminate them. It sounds as though there might be a relationship, but I am not able to make the connection. Let's keep in touch regarding the Lawrence family.
