    1. Re: Re: [LAWRENCE] Thomas Lawrence of NYC
    2. Leggetts and Lawrences were found in and around NYC in the 18th century and the families intermarried more than once. Among those marriages was that between Thomas Lawrence (1718-178), s/o Capt. Jonathan Lawrence and Mary Betts, and Eleanor Helena Leggett (1725-1797), d/o John Leggett and Anna Hunt, one of my 4G grandparents. > I believe the original Trinity Church burned down and I have >details in my files somewhere— Trinity's original building, a frame structure built not long after it's founding 1690's burned to the ground in the great fire in NYC in 1776 and many records were indeed lost. The surviving vital records, baptisms, marriages and burials, can all be accessed and serached at the parish's website (just google it to locate it) The current building was erected in 1746 by the architect Richard Upjohn. And, like most Church of England parishes its congregation and ministers were split between loyalists and rebels during the Revolution with most of the loyalists decamping for what are now the maritimes.
