Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/5538/DAw.2ACIB/2255.1 Message Board Post: Jean I read this with some interest. There is, in some Lawrence lists, a Frederick L, b. at about the right time, but I have never been able to find a birth certificate for him. He would have been a great-uncle of mine. There are two suggestive hints in your posting. First, he was a musician. So was his brother Clement, my gf and his father (sometimes, when he wasn't a travelling theatrical or a photographer). Second, he had a son called Edwin. This is a common surname in our branch of the Lawrences, ever since an Edwin saved a brother's life in a 19th century fireworks accident.

    1. Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project
    2. robert mclaren
    3. It's time for an update on the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project. Both the Clan MacLaren Society (Scotland) and the Clan MacLaren Society of North American have now endorsed this DNA project. Genetic genealogy can be a powerful tool and provide help in building our genealogies. My purpose is to use the DNA results as a tool to help sort out the many different MacLaren lines in the Clan files. The results can also be useful to MacLarens in pointing the way toward possible connections and perhaps help indicate where you need to search for paper evidence. The database of results is slowly growing, but I would like many more MacLarens/McLarens (or any of the other surnames of the Clan including spelling variants) to join the project. The Lawrence surname, if Scottish, can be a MacLaren. The more we have in the database, the more likely it is that we will get matches between members. I am especially interested in getting members from the documented MacLaren lines that are in my files; however, I am also interested in any MacLaren/Pat(t)son/Lawson/Law/Low(e)/Lawrence, etc. who wants to join. This, of course, includes all the spelling variants of MacLaren and the other surnames. There are now 49 people in the project: 40 with results back, two with partial results back, four who have submitted their kits and are waiting on their results, and three who are either waiting for their kits or haven't returned them yet. There have been several successes, including a close match between a member from Scotland and a member from California. They have corresponded and believe they know their common ancestor. For those who are concerned about how the DNA sample is acquired, it is just a cheek swab -- very painless. I do encourage any Lawrence, if Scottish, to join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project. If you are interested, or have questions, contact me at bobmclaren@earthlink.net Bob McLaren Chairman, Genealogy Committee, Clan MacLaren Society of North America Administrator, Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project Robert McLaren bobmclaren@earthlink.net Why Wait? 1. 1895 deaths of mother and son
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DAw.2ACIB/2305 Message Board Post: This might help someone--not related and no other information. From the Daily Ardmoreite published in Ardmore, Pickens County, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, later Carter County, Oklahoma. Tuesday, October 29, 1895 Mother and Son One of the saddest sights ever beheld in Gainesville was to be seen at the Katy deport this morning. The remains of MRS. ELIZABETH LAWRENCE and her son DAVID N. LAWRENCE arrived on the early south bound Santa Fe this morning on their way to Whitesboro for interment. The deceased parties had lived at Wynnewood, I. T., for the past two or three years and there were only a few hours difference in their deaths. A few months ago, MRS. LAWRENCE, who was over 74 years old, was stricken with paralysis and was stopping with a relative, ROBERT MAXWELL, three miles from Wynnewood. Last Saturday night she grew suddenly worse and sent a messenger for her son D. W. LAWRENCE who was engaged in the mercantile business at Wynnewood. He hired a hack and started to see his mother, but unfortunately, the driver let the vehicle upset throwing him out and injuring him in such a way, it terminated fatally at 7:00 Sunday morning. His mother lingered until 12:00 Saturday night. Only seven hours elapsed between the deaths of the mother and her son, and their remains were interred at Whitesboro, their old home, this afternoon. Mrs. Lawrence was one of the leading members of the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Whitesboro, and few, if any more kind hearted Christian ladies ever lived in Texas. D. M. LAWRENCE was well known throughout north Texas and the Indian Territory, a more upright and honorable man and Christian gentleman never lived anywhere. The family moved to Whitesboro from Dallas County in 1871, having emigrated from Middle Tennessee the year before. Mrs. LAWRENCE leaves four children: NEWTON and JAMES who live at Wynnewood and Mrs. Dr. CHANDLER of Greenville and MRS. HENDRIX of Dallas. The deceased son D. M. LAWRENCE leaves a sorrowing wife and seven children to mourn his loss. The sorrowing relatives together with their many friends came down with the remains this morning to attend the funeral. DAVID LAWRENCE was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, also the Knights of Pythias and Knights of Honor. Each of the orders were represented in the funeral procession this morning. Fully 30 people from Wynnewood accompanied the remains. Printed in the Gainesville Register. Wednesday, October 30, 1895 MRS. W. R. MACKEY passed through on the morning train en route to her home at Wynnewood from Whitesboro where she had been with the remains of her father, DAVID M. LAWRENCE, and her grandmother, both of whom died last Sunday morning.

    1. Mary Anna Lawrence; Oktibbeha County, MS
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: High, Lawrence, McDaniel, Dixon, and Cotton Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DAw.2ACIB/2303 Message Board Post: I am seeking information about my g-grandfather, Dr. John High of Oktibbeha County, MS. He is shown in the 1880 US Census report as being a 32-year old physician in Oktibbeha County. And he is shown in that census report as being in the household of Robert Cotton in 1880. That would indicate Dr. High was born Abt. 1848. His birthplace is shown as Alabama. Within a few years after that census was taken, Dr. High was married to Mary Anna Lawrence. They had three children, the first of whom was my grandfather, Marvin Merritte High (1884-1960). The other two children (my grandaunt Dovie Pearl High and my granduncle John High) were born in 1886 and 1888 respectively. I am theorizing that Dr. High was in the household of Robert Cotton because Robert Cotton was married to Mary Narcissa High who was apparently the first child of Mark Mitchell High and his second wife, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dixon. The first child born to Mark Mitchell High and his first wife, Clara McDaniel, was apparently McDaniel Monroe "Daniel" High who was born Bef. 1854. Since he appears to have been the first child of Mark Mitchell High who was born 27 Oct 1805, it is likely that Daniel High was born Abt. 1825-1830 when his father was 20-25. So, Dr. High may have been in the Cotton household in 1880 because Robert Cotton's wife Mary Narcissa High Cotton was either: (1) Dr. High's sister, or (2) Dr. High's aunt. 1. Theory 1: Mary Narcissa High Cotton was Dr. High’s Sister. In this theory, Dr. John High (b. Abt. 1848 in Alabama) and Mary Narcissa High (b. 4 Mar 1855 in Alabama) would have both been children of Mark Mitchell High (b. Abt. 1805) and his second wife, Elizabeth Dixon (birth year unknown). 2. Theory 2: Mary Narcissa High Cotton was Dr. High’s Aunt: In this theory, Dr. High would have been a child of McDaniel Monroe “Daniel” High who was a child of Mark Mitchell High and his first wife, Clara McDaniel. Daniel High was Mary Narcissa High Cotton’s older, half-brother (same father, different mother). Any information that might provide clues to Dr. High’s and/or Mary Lawrence's ancestry and/or that could either help prove or disprove either of the above two theories would be very welcomed and appreciated. Thanks. Robert Merritte “Bob” Webb Grandson of Marvin Merritte High, and Great grandson of Dr. John High
