Surnames: Stewart---Crabtree---Wilkinson---Carter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DAw.2ACIB/385.409.437.440.443.448.450.454.560.567.571 Message Board Post: Hi! My name is Marian Warren, and my E-mail address is: Mjswspokane@comcast.net I have been wading through messages posted on the message boards at Ancestry.com and related links. Most of the ones I am into now are pretty old, like 2000. But, we have only had Ancestry.com since about August, so I am wading through a lot of old stuff. I saw the message you posted in 2000,apparently in answer to someone else's message or query, etc. You mentioned that a Claire (last name?) married an Albert Stewart in 1915 and moved to Chandler, Arizona. This Albert is a twin to Alfred Stewart and are brothers to my grandfather James Christopher Stewart. They are sons of Francis Marion Stewart and Martha Elizabeth Carter Stewart, my gr-grandparents. Martha E. was the daughter of Meredith and Nancy Ann (no maiden name yet) Carter. Meredith, Nancy, and Martha E. were all supposed to have been born in Alabama, but ended up in Franklin Co., Tennessee. Albert and Alfred Stewart were born January 9, 1893, in Stone County, Arkansas. Albert died August 13, 1969, in Chandler, Arizona. Both of the twins ended up in Arizona. I don't have death date or place for Alfred. I remember my father, Carl Marion Stewart, going to Arizona to visit one of the twins, or maybe both. My Mom has/orhad a few pictures from this visit. And, one of the twins had a portrait of him and his brother, I guess when they were younger; I don't know which one though. I think one, or both, of them had red hair. It runs in the Stewart family, as does twins. However, I think both of these qualities may come down from the Crabtree side of the family. Both the twins are gone now, and I'm sure their wives too. I have tried to contact the few remaining Stewarts in that area (that my Uncle Tommy gave me addresses for,) but have had little success. Billy Stewart was a policeman in Wickenburg, Arizona. I wrote him, and others, and he called me once. I got ahold of him through the police dept., but the last time I wrote it came back. There was rumor that he had maybe moved to Oregon. None of the others I wrote ever responded to me. It would be great if you could write me and fill me in on a little more info that you have. Please send me your E-mail address so we can correspond directly. I have the names of Francis Marion and Martha E.'s children. The moved from Franklin Co., Tenn. and ended up in Arkansas. They had 14 children. Francis Marion's parent were William S. Stewart and Zilliah Ann Crabtree Stewart. They had a total of 12 children; I have the names of 11 of them. William S. Stewart was also born in Alabama on Oct. 19, 1825(23?). I think 25. I have not gotten back past William yet. However, Zilliah Ann Crabtree Stewart's parents were Mack Harrison Crabtree and Lucy Jane Wilkinson. Mack's father was William Crabtree of Crow Creek, Tenn. (near Alabama border.) And on message board, I've just heard that William Crabtree's father was Isaac who lived in Barren and/or Wayne Co. Kentucky. Just found out that Lucy Jane's father was John Batley Wilkinson, and his father was William Wilkinson who died in Barren Co., Kentucky. This is new info, so I can't swear to it. Write me as soon as you can, and we can touch bases. Please send my your E-mail address so we can contact each other directly. I don't know how much, in any, of this info you want to know, but I do have names of children of some of these people I mentioned. Hope to hear from you soon!! Bye for now. Marian Warren

    1. Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project
    2. robert mclaren
    3. It's time for an another update on the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project. Both the Clan MacLaren Society (Scotland) and the Clan MacLaren Society of North American have now endorsed this DNA project. Hopefully the Clan MacLaren Society (Australia) will do the same. Genetic genealogy can be a powerful tool and provide help in building our genealogies. My purpose is to use the DNA results as a tool to help sort out the many different MacLaren lines in the Clan files. The results can also be useful to MacLarens in pointing the way toward possible connections and perhaps help indicate where you need to search for paper evidence. The database of results is slowly growing, but I would like many more MacLarens/McLarens (or any of the other surnames of the Clan including spelling variants) to join the project. The Lawrence surname can be a MacLaren -- especially if your Lawrences are from Scotland. The more we have in the database, the more likely it is that we will get matches between members. I am especially interested in getting members from the documented MacLaren lines that are in my files; however, I am also interested in any MacLaren/Pat(t)son/Lawson/Law/Lawrence, etc. who wants to join. This, of course, includes all the spelling variants of MacLaren, Lawrence, and the other surnames. There are now 78 people in the project: 69 with results back, two with partial results back, two who have submitted their kits and are waiting on their results, and five who are either waiting for their kits or haven't returned them yet. Five members of the project are Lawrences. There have been several successes. One member in Scotland matches a member in California 33 out of 37 markers. Another member in New Zealand matches a member in Canada 35/37. For those who are concerned about how the DNA sample is acquired, it is just a cheek swab -- very painless. If you have already tested under the Lawrence Surname DNA Project, and your Lawrence is Scottish or you believe them to be Scottish, I encourage you to join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project as your second project. This can be done at no cost. Go to your personal page. At the top of the page is a square blue join button. Click on this button. This takes you to a new page that gives the project that you can join. MacLaren is one of them. Click on MacLaren. This takes you to a page that describes the MacLaren Project. At the botton of this page is another square blue join button. Click on this button and you have joined. If you haven't tested yet, and no close male Lawrence relatives have tested, I encourage you to consider testing. First, test under the Lawrence Surname DNA Project. Then if you think your Lawrence is Scottish, follow the paragraph above to join the Clan MacLaren Surname Project. If you are interested, or have questions, contact me at bobmclaren@earthlink.net Bob McLaren Chairman, Genealogy Committee, Clan MacLaren Society of North America Administrator, Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project Robert McLaren bobmclaren@earthlink.net Why Wait? Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DAw.2ACIB/2270.2 Message Board Post: I have the records of Josiah's Revolutionary War experiences. In addition, I possess copies of two separate DAR applications outlining his service. Actually, Josiah Sr. was called to service and Josiah Jr. replaced him on occasion. He was a soldier in Captain Samuel Robinson's Company in 1780 and Captain William Hutchins Company in 1781. Proof of service was furnished by an Edward Baker, Assistant Adjutant General in charge of War Records Vermont in the Revolution, at the time of this application. "Josiah Lawrence Jr. served three days upon an alarm on October 11, 1780 in Captain Samuel Robinson's Company (p221). Josiah Lawrence served from August 16, 1780 to November 21, 1780 in Captain Eli Noble's Company (p203). Josiah Lawrence served from January 1, 1781 to November 18, 1781 in Captain William Hutchins(pp 297-568)" I also have a hand written COPY of Josiah's application for a pension as a revolutionary war soldier. If you don't have this or would like to see it, send me a note Email. I am currently researching through Y Chromosome markings in the DNA of two direct line descendants. One from the Josiah line and one from a John Lawrence (1746) line in an attempt to clarify earlier ancestor differences.

Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DAw.2ACIB/2318 Message Board Post: Floyd Beattie Lawrence Jr., 68, of Thousand Oaks, went to be with the lord Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, after a lengthy illness. Floyd was born March 28, 1937, in Saltville, Va. He weighed more than 11 pounds and was born at home. He was the son of the late Floyd Beattie Lawrence and Ruth Roberts Lawrence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Chad Lawrence. Floyd was of the Christian faith. Floyd was a real American success story. He pulled himself up by his boot straps out of a hill coal mining town in Virginia to become a football hero, town hero, Navy pilot, and airline pilot; but he never forgot where he came from. Floyd left home when he was 14 years old to make his way in the world. He began attending Greenbrier Military School. His road to success began when he graduated in 1955, from Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, W.Va., where he demonstrated leadership and considerable ability on the football field and obtained the quality foundation that would serve him well for the of rest of his life. Floyd always said the happiest years of his life were spent at Greenbrier Military School. Floyd's infectious grin, good humor and beautiful blue eyes made him well-liked by everyone. Floyd sang in the Greenbrier Military School Glee Club and he certainly had a good voice. Floyd's football ability enabled him to attend Clemson and Florida State, where he played football as a running back and full back. Floyd, "Dink" as he was known then, played and lettered in the 1956 Orange Bowl for Clemson. From 1957 to 1958 he played fullback for Florida State Seminoles. He was a bruising runner at 202 pounds and filled the spot vacated by MVP Bob Nellums. He roomed with Burt Reynolds for a short time at Florida State, although Floyd played better football. After college, Floyd entered the Navy where he completed pilot training, flying special missions in Vietnam. Later, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, returning state side in 1966. After leaving the Navy in November of 1966, Floyd joined Continental Airlines where he flew Continental Micronesia for many years. Flying airplanes was the absolute love of his life and he was an excellent pilot known for his soft landings. Floyd was also a great chef and loved to cook many international varieties of food from scratch. When you tasted his Brazilian samba stew, you thought you were in heaven. He was an adventurer and loved to explore. He never met a stranger. Floyd was a very unique person who lived his life without worrying about about what someone else was thinking. Underneath his guts and grit exterior was a tender heart of gold that was very kind, gentle and generous to anyone in need. There was never a dull moment with Floyd around. He could have filled a book with his stories. Survivors include a special friend, Ann Telling of Thousand Oaks; daughter, Marcia Beverly of New Mexico; sons, Brian K. and Anthony Scott Lawrence and his wife, Sandra, all of Arizona; brother, Douglas B. Lawrence and his wife, Ramona, of Gladys, Va. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Whitney Lawrence and Tyler McKee; and stepgrandchildren, Nichole and Garret Porter. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary, 101 E. Wilbur Road, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. A reception will immediately follow at the Thousand Oaks Elk's Club, where we will celebrate the life and many accomplishments of Floyd Beattie Lawrence Jr. Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindnesses they shared and the love they brought into our lives. He will be missed! Published in the Ventura County Star from 1/1/2006 - 1/4/2006.

The only exception to the word count is abbreviations: four letters/numbers or less = one word; five letters/numbers or more = two words. Punctuation does not affect this. 6. Our Heritage Book will also include church, club, or organizational histories, community histories, information on historical buildings, military history, special events, sports history, etc. These stories are entitled to 250 words and one photograph FREE. Additional words are 10 cents for each additional word and $12.50 for each additional photo. There will also be a memorial and business history section. Contact the TCHS (tchs@netscope.net) for information and prices on these pages. 7. Our Heritage Book may be ordered in advance for $55 to be shipped or for $50 to be picked up at the TCHS.
