Diana: Below is information that I found on Larry Smith's coalexchange.com. site about my James Patterson Lawrence. I am not sure if there actually was a Muscovia GA during that era. I have often thought that the reverse may be true: He was living in Macon GA and was born in Muscovia Georgia, which is part of the Ukraine. I have not researched yet to see if he is an immigrant, but will do some checking soon. When there is no obvious paper trail, I develop all sorts of theories and then work to eliminate them. It sounds as though there might be a relationship, but I am not able to make the connection. Let's keep in touch regarding the Lawrence family. All I know about my Peter Lawrence is that he was born in 1827 in Sumter SC and his Father's name was Benjamin Lawrence. Don't have any idea who his mother was. She is believed to have died before he came to GA(sometime between 1850 & 1860) because he had a step brother named "Thigpen" who came to Early Co with him, his brother and sister. After his 1st wife died and he remarried, we lost track of him. His 1st wife died giving birth to twins which he gave up for adoption, even though there were several older children who could have cared for them. Family stories go that his 2nd wife was a "mean" step-mother so his daughter Florine who was my GR Grandmother ran away from home and married young to get away from her. The 2nd wife had some children who may have gone to Alabama. Don't know when Peter died or where he is buried. What county is Muscovia in? Diana -----Original Message----- From: Harriet E. My GrGr Grandfather was a PETER E Lawrence born in 1827 in Sumter Co SC. He came to Early Co, GA between 1850-1860. Served in CSA. Sometime between 1860-1865 he married my GRGr Grandmother, Axianne Elvina MILLS. She died in childebirth and in 1879 he married a 2nd time to a Molly Calhoun. Don't know when or where he died. It is for family research and to share info if parties are interested. Thank you, Brenda (Canada)
I've "rescued" an old photograph of two young children which indicates on the back that they likely belong to S. S. HOWARD of Roaring Branch, Pennsylvania. The photograph was likely taken in the early 1900's with the children appearing to be about 4 - 6 years old at the time, the youngest a girl and the oldest a boy. In addition someone has written order information on the back of the photograph. Thanks to the help of a HOWARD Family researcher I know that these are likely the children of Schuyler HOWARD and his wife Jennie LAWRENCE. Schuyler HOWARD was the son of Charles Henry HOWARD and Frances Katherine SELLAR, and the Grandson of John W. HOWARD and Susanna BASTIAN. Lawrence HOWARD was b. 3 October 1898 and Zelma HOWARD b. 7 July 1901. Lawrence HOWARD married Ruth Elizabeth WAUGH and together they had one son, Larry HOWARD. Zelma HOWARD died very young in 1907 and is said to have been buried in the Roaring Branch Cemetery. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
