A John Lawrence appeared on the 1837 tax list for Washington County, Arkansas. James Lawrence died there young in 1837. John Lawrence was appointed guardian of James Lawrence's children. Papers were filed in the estate in 1840 transferring guardianship away from John Lawrence. John and James Lawrence were the sons of George Lawrence, born ca 1772 in Guilford Co., NC and died in 1852 in Washington Co., AR. This Lawrence family, along with several other Lawrence brothers, were living in southwestern Illinois from ca 1807-1818, when they moved through NW Arkans as on their way to what was then called Miller Co., Arkansas Territory. This took in quite a large area, including a portion of SW Arkansas, NE Texas and SE Oklahoma. George Lawrence moved his family to Washington Co., AR around 1827. Other members of the family settled in SE Arkansas and Texas. Two of James Lawrence's sons, Samuel and Adam, were living in Franklin Co., AR in 1850. By 1860, Adam Lawrence was living in Grayson Co., TX. George Lawrence's son Samuel Lawrence (b. 1810 in IL) settled in Burleson Co., TX. George's brother Joseph had a son named Adam. This Adam Lawrence settled in Williamson Co., TX. His father joined him in Williamson County, with two of his Adam's brothers, who were born in Illinois. If you cannot find a descendant, I would be glad to get the bible on behalf of the National Genealogical Society (NGS). We have a Family Bible project going where the pages with the information (and the title/copyright page) are scanned and the contents indexed. This goes into a database at NGS and is available to members. After this, NGS tries to find a descendant or a historical/genealogical society that would take the bible. And, if you do find a descendant, could you email me images of the pages plus the title/copyright page? I will forward this to NGS for entry. Hello I am descended from Joseph Lawrence, son of Ebenezer Lawrence and Sarah Hammond who in turn was the son of Joshua(2) Robert (1) the emigrant. I am particularly interested in Joseph lawrence b 1736/7 Rochester, Mass. the family moved to Old Furnace, Hardwick Co. Mass around 1748...... Joseph married Susannah _______ . They had 4 children registered in Athol, Mass (Levi, Sarah (my ancestor) John and Nathan) We believe that prior to living in Athol, Mass they had Hammond and Joseph Lawrence, although we have no detailed record of theiname of their parents. There was also a daughter born later to Joseph and Susannah whose name we do not know. Joseph was a Rev Soldier and "Green Mountain Boy" and, to me, the whole family lived a ' colourful' life. Joseph bought and sold land - there is a deed for a land sale in Fair Haven, Vt with Susannah's name given as Susannah Parmalee ( or a version of that name) She obviously remarried following Jos's death - he is not listed in the 1790 census for Vt. I would be most grateful if your records show anything of Joseph Lawrence b 1736/37 and in particular the maiden surname of Susannah _______ I look forward to hearing from you Florence Pelton Patterson Stratford, Ontario, Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: <jeffyjo@rocketmail.com> To: <LAWRENCE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 06, 2006 10:41 AM Subject: [LAWRENCE] Family Bible of Milo Carlos LAWRENCE and Jane A. I did a quick look for Fred and Bertha in the 1900 census. I located Bertha, but couldn't find Fred with this quick look. So, in case you don't have Bertha in the 1900 census, she is listed in Brookdale Township, Rush County, Kansas, Supervisor's District 7, Enumeration District 238, page 4B. She is listed as Bertha M. and her birth date is shown as May 1890 which is slightly different. Let me know if you want the image and I will send it. John Lawrence was named as a son of George Lawrence in his will dated 1847. A John Lawrence was listed in the 1821 Miller County Sheriff’s List. This could have been Adam Lawrence, Jr.’s son John, who was killed by Pawnees in 1826. A John Lawrence appeared on the Register of Families for Austin’s Colony. The date was probably 1832. John Lawrence (age 25) and his wife, Sally, entered the Register, with the note, “Canceled at the request of the interested parties and has returned his obligation.” A John Lawrence appeared on the 1837 tax list for Washington County, Arkansas.
