    2. Margie Lawrence
    3. Trying to locate the twin brothers of James Arthur Lawrence. I do not have a birth date for them but James Arthur was b 1865 in MS or TN so it possible they were born in the 1860s time span. Their parents are James b NC, and Mollie Agnes, b AL Lawrence. Did they come to Texas as James Arthur did in the late 1880s? Any help appreciated. If we locate them perhaps we can find some clues to the parents. Thanks, Margie Lawrence

    2. Judy Lawrence
    3. Linda, Here is the info I have on the Newton Scott Lawrence in our line: He was the son of Elias Lawrence and Mary Rice. I believe he was born 1 Oct 1844 in Enosburgh, Franklin Co, VT and died in 1926 in Magnolia, Harrison Co, IA. When he was a young man, he and his two brothers, Henry Munroe Lawrence and Silas Rice Lawrence (as well as several of their Rice relatives), left Vermont to travel westward into the wilderness, settling in Magnolia, IA. He married Luella Norris (date unknown). She was born 1847 in Vermont and died 1905 in Magnolia, IA. They had 5 children: Harry (b. abt 1870), Eveline (b. abt 1871), Gertrude (b. abt 1874), Fannie (b. abt 1876), and Ruth (b. 1779). He, Luella and the children are found in Magnolia in the 1880 census (I haven't checked any other census years for that family). He is listed as a Magnolia Township landowner in the Harrision County, Iowa GenWeb Project. Newton and Luella, his brother Silas, and his father Elias and 2nd wife Julia are buried in the Magnolia Cemetery (gravestone records copied by W.P.A. Graves Registration Project Harrison County, Iowa). I hope this information is helpful. Do you think this might be your Newton? If you would like any more details, I can be reached at <[email protected]>. Judy

    3. Penny, I am very much interested in finding out what you may know about the Alfred Lawrence born 1818 Meigs Co. OH and married Esther Paden. I have been searching for years for a man known to me only through my late mother in law as Henry Lawrence. It's a long story but I will try to condense it. My late husband was Dale Griffey of Conneaut, Ashtabula Co. Ohio. His maternal grandmother was Lillian Orall Kidd Lawrence who married Bert Cyrus Wolcott. Lillian was the daughter of Orall (Cox) Kidd and a Robert Kidd. It seems that soon after Lillian's birth in Dec 1888 in McKeesport PA, her reported father Robert Kidd disappeared from the face of the earth, never to be found again. Orall remarried to a Henry Lawrence and he adopted Lillian thus she carried both the Kidd and Lawrence surnames. Orall died in 1921 in Conneaut, OH and we never knew what happened to this Mr. Lawrence. Throught the Ashtabula Co Genealogical Society I have learned that Mr. Lawrence was probably Albert Henry Lawrence who was born 1853 in PA and died in 1935 in Conneaut OH but was returned to Girard PA for funeral and burial "beside his wife Nellie." The ACGS also found A. Henry Lawrence on the 1860 census of Girard Twp. Erie Co. PA at age 16 with the parents being Alfred and Esther Lawrence. The only thing wrong with all this is that on the 1860 census Alfred is listed as being 36 and Esther is 34 which would make Alfred being born in 1824 instead of 1818. But then if you have been into genealogy for any time at all you know that people didn't always give their correct age on to the census taker. To get to my point I am wondering if your Alfred and Esther may be the parents of my brick wall, Henry Lawrence. Any information you would be willing to share with me would be greatly appreciated. You see I am dealing with what I know to be 3 generations of "only child" births, all three of whom are deceased now so I have no one to ask questions of. My three daughters are really hoping I can put their fathers roots together for them so they will have some form of lineage to pass on to their children. My husband, Dale died in 1995 just 11 years after his mother Virginia passed away when our children were rather young. Virginia's mother Lillian passed away just 6 months before Dale was born so he never knew his maternal grandmother. I have no idea if Orall had siblings or not but am still working on that but there again all I have to go on is her death certificate which states that she was born in Massillon, Stark Co. OH to Andrew and Anna (Keller) Cox. Thanks for any help you can give me. Mary (Dodrill) Griffey I am trying to find any information on John Lawrence who married Mary Townsend in Schenectady, NY about 1805. They had the following children: i. Elizabeth Lawrence b. About 1805; NY married Issac Staats ii. Henry S. Lawrence b. Feb 9, 1806, NY married Perthenia Price. iii. Mary Ann Lawrence b. Jun 8, 1808, NY married John Pickens. iv. Cynthia Lawrence b. 1810, NY married Jacob Parsons and then Issac Taylor, Sr. v. Dorman B. Lawrence b. May 8, 1813, NY married Sarah Anderson. vi. John Simeon Lawernce b. 1815, Meigs Co. OH vii. Alfred Lawrence born 1818, Meigs Co. OH married Esther Paden

    1. [LAWRENCE-L] Hugh and Hepsa LAURANCE
    2. New to the list -- first post! :) I'm picking up a line that I've not attempted to work on for some time so it's almost like starting over again. Mary LAURANCE is said to have been born on Beaver Island, MI, 10 Aug. 1820. She may have died in 1898. Her parents were Hepsa, b. 17 Feb. 1790 (maiden name unknown) and Hugh LAURANCE, b. 12 Aug. 1793, possibly in Canada. There may have been other children from this union but they are not yet known to me. Mary LAURANCE later married William Henry FRANCISCO sometime before 1837. Any of this familiar to anyone out there? Thanks! Jill (Syers) Clark

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DAw.2ACIB/1707.1 Message Board Post: I have Lawrences in Somerset County, Queen Anne County and Baltimore, Maryland. I am a descendant of William Henry Lawrence who is reported to have come from Westmoreland County Virginia on the Potomac River about 1820. He was born March 3, 1802, presumably in Westmoreland County, Virginia and died September 22, 1900 in Somerset County, Maryland. Two stories have been documented concerning William Henry Lawrence’s journey from Virginia to Maryland. In 1977 Mrs. Shirley Richards, the “Somerset County unofficial historian”, told Frank Lawrence that William Lawrence left Virginia in a canoe at night “amid shooting and trouble”. This may have been in 1816. Also in 1997, Frank Lawrence spoke to Mr. Walter Bloodsworth of Somerset County, Md who related the following tale. In 1820, William was serving dinner at a home in which he lived. As he entered the dining room, a lady seated there asked of someone else, “How long will he ! be here?”. Hearing this, William dropped the platter of food and bolted out the door and into the [Potomac] River. A passing boat picked him up, according to Mr. Bloodsworth. The captain of the boat was Edward Tyler, who carried William to Somerset County. The Tyler name is intertwined with the Lawrence name as neighbors in the census records, witnesses in legal documents and several descendants were named Tyler. August 5,1834 William married Mary Ann Sheperd. They are listed in the Somerset County 1850 census. They remained in Somerset County. Mary passed on in 1884 and is buried at Saint Peters Methodist Church in Oriole, Maryland. William passed on September 22, 1901 and is buried next to his wife.
