Here is what I wrote you: Stephanie, I don't know where James is located. I'm looking for a relative through trying to locate him. My g-g-g-g-grandmother was Eliza H. Lawrence. She married David Gay on September 7, 1822 in St. Clair County, Illinois. I have reason to believe that she was born in Vermont and David in Ohio, but I have no proof. I have written for a copy of their marriage certificate. My first request was mailed back (needed money order and not check). I have mailed another request. Hopefully they'll have a copy, and I'll find out more about them. They had at least one child, Mary Laurene b. October 7, 1825 in Madison County, Illinois. Eliza's g-grandaughter, Mabel Claire Lemen's 2nd husband was one of her Lawrence cousins, William Lawrence Johnson. I am descended from Mabel's 1st husband. One of the descendent of her 2nd husband sent me copies of pictures of William's cousins. Two of the pictures, a couple, had written on the back "Mr and Mrs James Lawrence. Mrs. Lawrence - sister of William Hicklin. Cousins of the grandmother of William Lawrence Johnson - 2nd husband of Mabel Lemen." The pictures look like they were made in the late 1800's. The Lawrences have gray hair. He has a long gray beard. There are additional pictures of William Lawrence Johnson: (all pictures look to be from the late 1800's) 1. Lillian Lawrence - 2. William Stooking (sp?) lawyer Topeka, Kansas - Taken in Kansas City, MO 3. Aunt L??? Stocking (sp?) she was a Lawrence. Ant (sic) Lue (sp?) Ferga??? Great ant (sic) is marked out - Taken in Independence (MO?) The Stookings look like they are in their 30's or 40's. 4. May and Lawrence Deming, cousins of Texas, age 14-16 years - the picture was taken in Texas I don't know if you can make any connections. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful on James Lawrence. Carolyn
I ddon't have a Jonathan Lawrence - but I do have 4 children of Ebenezer Lawrence 1708-1797 who moved from Rocherster, Mass to Hardwick County ( near Old Furnace) children were: Susanna/Joseph/Ebenezer/ and Sarah. If any of these connect, please let me know. For a time, he resided in Los Altos, CA and at the same time an older sibling (or their spouse) also lived in the same town. He died in 1961. His younger son, also Truby, died in 1965. Truby as a first name is somewhat unusual. If you show any Trubys in your family line please drop me a line. I'd love to connect with some of the descendents of my grandfather's siblings. Rick My Edwin Lawrence was a shoemaker according to the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records. So far as I know, he did not leave New York until very late in life when he lived with one of his sons in Newark, New Jersey. Edwin's grandson, Eldemora Lawrence, "went south" around 1920 but I don't know where. Good luck in your search. William Henry FRANCISCO was born 9 Dec. 1802, possibly in Ontario. He married Mary LAURANCE, born 10 Aug. 1820 (daughter of Hugh and Hepsa LAURANCE, born 12 Aug. 1793 and 17 Feb. 1790, respectively). It is thought that Mary was born on Beaver Island (Michigan). The dates come from a family Bible in the possession of my parents which has the emblem of the Bishop of Peterborough in it. William may have been married previously to a woman named Harriet and another researcher shows his parents as Barent FRANCISCO and Rachel MANDEVILLE of NJ. I am looking for further information on any FRANCISCOs or LAURANCEs who came to Michigan, possibly through Ontario, before 1840. If any of the above looks familiar to anyone, please e-mail me. Thanks! Jill (Syers) Clark
