My father did the research many years ago before his death and they are not terribly comprehensive. Email me direct on [email protected] with any dates you have and I will do a bit of digging for you as I only live 10 minutes from the Hertfordshire Records Office. My Lawrences come from the Brent Pelham/Braughing/Great Hormead area (north of London on the London to Cambridge Road) and then moved just over the border into Essex and lived at Roydon. They were a large family too. The horse story is interesting as us Lawrences are known for being rather stubborn!!

He left after an argument over a horse. His wifes name was Sarah. I believe they were a large family and they took a housekeeper, one Fanny Taylor. They sailed on a ship called Hope via Melbourne Australia, probably from Southhampton.

I've asked my mother but she's not sure either. I'll check with a couple of aunts and what little I have in one of our books. I would not discount it though. Most of my mother's family lives around the Ft. Smith area. I know that she was born in Alma and there's the Dean and Bolton Cementeries that have family in it. All that area around Alma, Van Buren, and Mountainberg is where the Dean's and Lawrence's lived from what I understand. Anyway, I'll check and see what I can find out. Anita

    3. Thanks Jane, We are trying to find our Charles and Walter's father Sam Patton Lawrence, he died around 1900 in East Texas and we don't know where. He was married to Mary Idella Campbell, we have her line back several generations but we have no idea where his might have been. He was born in Georgia. Good luck in your hunt.
