From: January 30, 1958 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Pete Jones, Well Known Negro, Dies Of Heart Attack William "Pete" Jones, 57, well known local Negro, died suddenly Sunday afternoon of a heart attack. Funeral services are scheduled this Sunday, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church near Choudrant in Lincoln Parish. Pete, as he was known to many Winnfield residents, had worked for over 10 years as a paper carrier for the Winn Parish Enterprise, and was known to white and colored alike for his faithful service in this capacity. He also held part time employment with New Winnfield Drug Co., and performed other services for a number of local people. He often acted as a "Good Samaritan," soliciting help members of his race in times of distress. Pete was born and reared in Lincoln Parish, near Choudrant, and came to Winnfield around 1940. He was a former railroad worker, retired on account of his health. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, three children, a son, Jimmy, employed as pressman at the Enterprise; two daughters, Irene and Murine, of Winnfield; and one sisters, Elvada Simmons of Louisville, Ky.; and two grandchildren. --------------B656A4C76D5F34124AB848FA--
