From: October 25, 1928 Winn Parish Enterprise Girl Is Killed By Runaway Team Cortez Elliott, Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Elliott of Dodson Is Buried Sunday Funeral services for Cortez Elliott, 11 years old, who met a tragic death at her home five miles east of Dodson, near New Hope Church, Saturday, were held at New Hope Sunday. Burial was at New Hope. The girl was killed while driving a team of mules hitched to a wagonload of corn o her father's farm, when the mules became frightened and starting to run away, threw her from the wagon. The front endgate of the wagon fell out of place, causing the girl, who was standing up, to fall in front of the moving wheels, which passed over her chest. Death was instant. A coroner's jury declared the tragedy accidental. Cortez was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Elliott, who live near Dodson, and the granddaughter of Allen Kelly, of Sikes. --------------BB8F7CE598343249A072EA1F--
