To the list, Jimmy Cooley pointed out that many may not understand what the "Oaths of Office" that I posted to the archives. Anyone who is commissioned to any particular office in La., such as sheriff, clerk of court, tax assessor, justice of the peace, constable, district attorney, school board, police jury (county commission in many states), coroner, city, town, village mayor or councilman or alderman, or, any board appointed position by the governor or state legislature, etc., must take an oath of office. This is truly one of the overlooked genealogical sources we have in our courthouses. Jimmy, thanks for pointing out to me what I should not have assumed. Gregg
