Cupp, Once Winn Resident, Fatally Stricken Funeral Services Will Be Conducted Here Friday Afternoon J. R. Cupp, 67, a former deputy sheriff of Winn Parish, died suddenly at his home in Phoenix, Arizona, Monday, according to a message received by his daughter, Mrs. Sion Jenkins, here late Monday evening. Mrs. Cupp, with two of her daughters, Mrs. W. D. Johnson and Mrs. C. M. Fritzinger, left Phoenix Tuesday to accompany the remains to Winnfield for burial. They are expected to arrive in Shreveport Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. >From there the remains will be brought to Winnfield by hearse. Funeral services will be held at the Winnfield Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in charge. Rev. B. C. Land, Baptist pastor, and Rev. L. D. Posey, Jena, former pastor of the local church, will assist in the services. Interment will be in the Winnfield Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dr. A. W. Radescich, Mack Branch, Bryant Sholars, Jim Carter, Charlie Smith, A. L. Smith, John J. Peters, and Hugh Mercer. Mr. Cupp was born in Claiborne Parish June 16, 1870. He and Miss Mary Ella Bolen were married in September, 1888 and came to live in Winn Parish in 1903. He was prominent in religious, political, and civic affairs of Winn Parish. His membership was in the Corinth Baptist church and the Woodmen of the World. In addition to being deputy sheriff, he was employed as special agent of the Tremont Lumber Company, a position he was forced to resign in 1922 on account of failing health that necessitated a change in climate. He was a sufferer from asthma. Survivors are Mrs. Cupp; one son, W. R. Cupp of Laurel, Miss.; five daughters, Mrs. Sion Jenkins of Winnfield, Mrs. Lee J. Melton of Monroe, Mrs. J. W. Vastine of Baton Rouge, Mrs. W. D. Johnson and Mrs. C. M. Fritzinger of Phoenix, Ariz. Four sisters also survive. They are Mrs. M. E. Gresham of Monroe, Mrs. Frank Hughes of Coushatta, Mrs. R. E.
