Margaret handed-out a listing of excellent websites for locating genealogical and historical information on the Internet's World Wide Web. Then systematically demonstrated how to go each site and both told & showed us what we could expect to find there. Except for "busy" sites causing slow retrieval or temporarily unavailable, we all saw some things which were new to us. So, it was beneficial to all in attendance. For those of you unable to attend...Here is Margaret's list: Family TreeMaker Search Engine http://www.familytreemaker.com/ifftop.html RootsWeb Search Engine http://searches.rootsweb.com/htdig/search.html US GenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb GenForum Query Site Extrordinaire http://www.genforum.com Cyndi's List of Internet Links for Genealogy http://CyndisList.com Ancestry Community Tree http://www.ancestry.com/home/ged/main.htm Genealogical Database Index http://www.gentree.com Most Wanted: Lists the ones you can't seem to find http://www.citynet.net/mostwanted Genealogy On-Line http://www.genealogy.org I Found It and Kinship Search Engine http://www.genhomepage.com Index of Surnames http://www.gendex.com:8080 NerdWorld Personal Home Pages (more serious than it sounds) http://www.nerdworld.com/nw1124.html Ultimate Family Tree Homepage http://www.untilmatefamilytree.com Journal of On-Line Genealogy http://onlinegenealogy.com Spring Board of Genealogy http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/2154/spring.html Traveller Southern Families http://misc.traveller.com/genealogy RootsWeb Site http://www.rootsweb.com EGS Data Base http://www.hom.nect/~egs/dbase/dbase22/ava00062.htm#7 Genealogy Gateway On The Web http://www.polaris.net/~legend/bookmark.html Ancestry Home Page http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/search/3287.htm Guide To Immigration & Ship Lists http://home.att.net/~arnielang/shipguide.html On Line Census Links http://www.census-online.com/links/index.html Family Search - Family History Library (LDS) - Temporary Test Site http://www.familysearch.org Louisiana Genealogical Register http://cust2.iamerica.net/mmoore/register.htm Louisiana Genealogy Web Ring http://www.webring.org/cqi-bin/webring?ring=natchitoches&list Cajun Clickers http://www.intersurf.com/~cars Bureau of Land Management, Eastern States http://www.glorecords.blm.gov Our next meeting is to be held on Sunday, May 2nd at 2:30 p.m. in the Alexandria Historical & Genealogical Library at 503 Washington Street. Various members have volunteered to bring some little something that has been handed-down through the generations and is now in the immediate family. In Show-And-Tell fashion, each person will tell what they know about the original owner, how and to the item was passed down to each subsequent generation. We will most certainly hear some entertaining tales and see some interesting items. For those of you close enough, please try and attend and take part in your organization. P.S. The Alexandria Historical & Genealogical Library will be open Thursdays 10 am - 7 pm on a trial basis for the month of May only. So, show your tenacity and support for our wonderful library collection and visit the real "Jewel On The Red" during the month of May ! Happy Hunting ! If you would like to be removed from receiving further notices, just write me at this e-mail address. Thanks, Houston Tracy, Jr. Treasurer, C.L.G.S. --part1_c81eeb10.2459f273_boundary--
