Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. From: March 23, 1950 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites Held Saturday, March 18 For J. L. Brand James L. Brand, 82 years, two months, and 16 days of age, died at his home at New Verda March 16, 1950. Funeral services were held at the Sikes Baptist Church at 3:00 o'clock Saturday, March 18, 1950, with the Rev. James B. Herndon and the Rev. Israel of the Verda Baptist Church and Rev. A. D. Murray of the Sikes church, officiating. Burial was in the Sikes Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Dewey Thornton, Onus McMurray, Lucius Gulledge, Dan Miller, L. L. Johnston, Earl Usrey, Horace Gentry, and Archie Crawley. When a young boy, he moved with his parents to Lawrence, Miss., where he lived for many years. Here he married Miss Emily Elizabeth Smith, February 14, 1894. To this union seven children were born. He moved to Sikes with his family January, 1914 and was a resident of that community for seven years. He then moved to New Verda in 1920 where he resided until his death. He had been a member of the Baptist Church since he was 16 years of age. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Mae Erskins of Sikes, Mrs. Trudie LeBarron of New Verda, and Mrs. Gladys Crain of Pollock; four sons, Amos Brand of Shreveport, Clay Brand of Beaumont, Texas, Louie Brand of Sikes, and Francis Brand of Sulphur; 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a brother and a sister. --------------2BD924ABDC9E42A822F7C024 Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="gedavies.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Greggory E.
