Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. From: September 4, 1969 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Rev. Merle Bates, Calvin Teacher, Dies Sept. 2 Rev. Lloyd Merle Bates, age 49, business administration teacher at Calvin High School, died in a Winnfield hospital at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 1969. He was a native of the Calvin area. Mr. Bates, who had retired from the ministry, had served as pastor of the Mill Creek Baptist Church. His membership was in the Bethlehem Church. He had received his bachelor of arts degree from Northwestern State College and his Master's from the University of Arkansas. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Bates was serving as Worshipful Master of the Calvin Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. C. C. Martin and Rev. Ernie Yocum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Masonic rites will be conducted at the graveside. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie Aline Free Bates; two sons, Kenneth M. Bates and Bobby L. Bates; one daughter, Miss Shelia Bates; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton L. Bates, all of Calvin; one brother, Buddy Bates of Winnfield, and a sister, Mrs. Bernice Weeks of Calvin. --------------D47F351B11B5D7A5AA7EA331--
