    1. [LAWINN-L] Roy Johnson; WWII Oral History Project

    3. Greetings: First of all, we received a very nice donation to the WPGHA today in memory of Roy Johnson from Tommy Joe Willis. Thanks to Tommy Joe who is always doing whatever he can for our organization, long distance, at that. Secondly, this is a reminder to all that we will again this Saturday, August 25, from 9 a.m. until, at the Winn Parish Courthouse, conduct WWII oral history interviews. We had quite a showing last Saturday, about 25, and some have conducted interview on their own outside the announced times. We are thankful to those who have been so helpful thus far. Monday, we sent a letter out to all known WWII veterans still residing in Winn Parish, advising of our project and asking them to come Saturday, so anyone who is able to assist, we will need you. We had a good response from our volunteers last Saturday, hopefully we will be overrun this Saturday. I am not sure if everyone involved is a subscriber to this list, so if any of you know of anyone who needs to be contacted, please do so. I don't think Mrs. Barbara Moon is a list subscriber, but we certainly want her there as she always brings good groceries. Luckily and happily, I was allowed to take home what was left from her stash last Saturday. Also, I am not sure if Mr. Austin Abrams is a subscriber, but I have included him in the announcement. Mr. Abrams managed to get a couple of veterans to the session last Saturday that I would have bet money would not have shown. My personal thanks to him. I am not sure if Mrs. Barbara Clark is subscribed to the list or not, sense she is now back on line. She allowed us use of her office and came to assist but had to be called out of town at the last minute due to a death in her family. I don't want to take steam away from Peggy, but I think she wants to try and have a short meeting Saturday with anyone involved in the Sept. 15 conference we are sponsoring. I understand we have quite a few registered to attend, plus we've received some donations from folks afar who cannot attend. Mr. Aubrey Hayden, nationally known artist, has donated one of his fine prints for a door prize (Winnfield Hotel), and those things have sold for a good price, far and near. I think Peggy will probably follow up with an announcement regarding the brief meeting concerning the conference. Thanks to all of you who have helped thus far this year, and to everyone who is a member of the WPGHA. Gregg

If you haven't sent yours in yet, you'd better hurry, you don't want to miss this .... if for no other reason than to get a terrific goodie bag and a chance to win some great door prizes! Thanks, Peggy
