I just spoke with Charles Bice, who flew out to be with Roy today. They went in to prepare a valve, but found a main artery coming out of the heart, going north, but that artery was calcified. It had to be cleaned out, which is what caused the scare. The heart valve was repaired OK, and Roy is in recovery. The doctors are cautiously optimistic giving a relatively good percentage of recovery. The next few hours are critical. Mr. Bice is optimistic at present and said the pulse rate was good as was the breathing. He said the doctors were much more encouraged after the surgery than when the discovered the calcified artery during. Gregg
