I am sure I have left someone off this message so pass the word if you know of anyone who needs to know receive it. It appears we don't have enough time to get a following for this coming Saturday, Nov. 3, and we have a regular meeting the following Saturday, Nov.10, which is also Veterans' Day weekend. I propose we try and look at Saturday, November 17 to try and get some of the vets who we have not yet interviewed. That should give us some time to plan and get it the paper and on KVCL. Now, and I hate to jinks the Winnfield Tigers but it is a possibility that they might be deep in the state playoffs that weekend and I certainly hope so. Should that be the case, I might not be available but will make arrangements if I am not for use of the same offices in the courthouse we used last time. Also, I'll need to get the materials, etc., in someone's hands. So, if you can help out that Saturday, Nov. 17, please let me know. I realize that is getting near Thanksgiving holidays but we need to get on this before Dr. Peters and Mr. Austin Abrams fire me. Thanks, Gregg

Gregg sent a request from Mr Holly that I list the surnames from the index of my book. Since I just subscribed to the mail list, I don't know if that got posted or not. (How would I check out previous messages posted on the mail list?) Anyway, the 10 "chapters of the book are on these 10 families: Smith (Sikes area), White (Dr Drury D), Thornton, Underwood, Hatten, Parker, Kirkland, Tullos, Lee, Nettles. In each case, I went back to the earliest DOCUMENTED ancestor that I have found and carried the descendants down through the generations. This is not an all-inclusive list of surnames in the book, but a list of those that come to mind when speaking of Winn Parish families: Abrams, Adams, Allen, Beavers, Boyett, Branch, Brand, Burnett, Campbell, Crain, Dampier, Davis, Eagles, Emmons, Erskin(s), Fletcher, Gaar, Gates, Gentry, Gorham, Gregory, Gresham, Grisham, Hart, Holmes, Humble, James, Jones, Jordan, Kelly, Kidd, King, Long, Lucas, McCarty, Netherland, Pendarvis, Pepper, Perkins, Peters, Prince, Riser, Rolen, Sikes, Simmons, Tatum, Terral, Thompson, Tippen/Tippin, Townsend, Walker, Willis, Wingate, Wright, Young. Many of these families will be dealt with in more detail in the second volume, which I hope to have out in the spring. I hope this helps some of you. Greetings: First of all, I have lost some personal address from my address book due to a changeover in computers, so I can't email addresses for Mr. Austin Abrams, Mrs. Barbara Clark, or Mrs. Barbara Moon, so if any of you see them before I do, please forward this information. Dr. Paul Peters, chairman of the WW II Oral History Project, wants to set a date for conducting more interviews. Anyone who can volunteer to help on an upcoming Saturday, please let me know. We will need to set a date and get word to the newspaper and radio and/or possibly do another mailout to the veterans in order to get them to the courthouse for the interviews. Thanks. Gregg

For your information, Mrs. Barbara Smith Guillory has donated to our organization a copy of her recent publication "Winn Parish Connections". This work contains genealogy on Smith, White, Thornton, Underwood, Hatten, Parker, Kirkland, Tullos, Lee, and Nettles families in Winn Parish, and many, many more surnames are included. The book contains over 300 pages and is indexed. I am exercising the perks of being president, so as soon as I look over it a bit more it will be housed at our library. The books can be obtained for $35 from Mrs. Guillory, her email address is: <bsguillory@earthlink.net> A huge thanks to Mrs. Guillory not only for the donation but for her hard work in furthering the cause of genealogy in Winn Parish. I can't recall for sure but I think Rayburn was first buried in a field near Calvin, I think. He was then moved to Gorhamtown Cemetery at Joyce and is buried there in an unmarked grave. I recall reading all this but it's been a while. Gregg Davies
