Greetings: First, a happy holiday season to all of you on the list and I pray that our nation can withstand the challenges we are facing so that we may all continue to prosper as we have in past years. Today we conducted another round of interviews of veterans and others who lived during the WW II period and we managed to interview about a dozen folks today. I am not sure as to the exact numbers but I think we have conducted approximately 70 total. I want to thank those who helped today and hopefully we can get an up to date list in a few days, sort, and attempt to get any others we have not yet gotten. Gregg

I have sent to the archives for Jo to post the following file: Murder of Bennett J. Boyett reconm66.txt 7k I think you'll find this very informative and interesting and I want to thank Prof. Jeff Reeves for having procured this document from the National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, D. C. This is yet another of those priceless, unable-to-find-anywhere-around-here documents that some of us die for. Again, appreciation to Prof. Reeves. I have attached the file to this email in case it takes Jo a day or two to post and I was excited in getting it and know that many of you on this list have relatives mentioned in this document. There are many, many familiar names here, many of them who many of you are working. I hesitated to send it as we might start up our own rendition of the Hatfield & McCoys right here in Winn Parish. I will be out of town this evening for the Winnfield football game so if any of you get cross-ways and into a feud over this, hold off any shootouts until I can get back. I the undersigned authority hereby certify under oath of office, That my life has been threatened by No. of persons in said parish, persons of property for issuing a state warrant against some characters living here, the affidavit was made by a free man to ground (grant) the warrant. I placed the warrant ihn the hands of the constable, & I presume as such threats as has been made against me, are the reason he refused to act. Some five or six persons, if not more have said that they would kill me & the said freedman & also Dr. Lynch & if they could not get us out from our houses, would come to our houses and do the work. I am satisfied that it is out of the powers of the civil authorities to do anything here, where the white was the aggressor & the Negro the complainant. I am in favor of enforcing the laws & give all justice, but I do not see how I can do so, unless assistance is rendered. My opinion is that if the matters mentioned above was well sifted, a good many persons would be concerned in this matter, whose names are not now known. I have good evidence to prove that my life has been threatened & am satisfied that they have been at my place on last Sunday night for that purpose, but they di dnot find things as they expected. Capt. Young can tell you a good deal more than I have written. He would remain and assist me but says his time is out & must leave. I am respectfully yours, A. V. Ragan, J.
