Edward T. WEEKS b. 19 Nov 1842 had a daughter named Mollie who married Parren GOLDEN in 1901. Mollie was only 17 years of age when she died in 1902 just a few days after giving birth to a son-Deval GOLDEN. Parren GOLDEN later married my grand-mother Bennie WILLIAMS. I am hoping that someone might have a picture of Mollie WEEKS GOLDEN or can tell me something about her short life. I will appreciate hearing from anyone who might can help. Kathy Adams Lampasas, TX

Good evening. I have forwarded the following file to the archives for Jo to post. Biography: William Jay Smith biowjs01.txt 26.7 KB Mr. Smith, world famed poet, author, etc., was born in Winnfield and has served as the U. S. Poet Laureate among other things. This bio includes info about the Faiths, Gaars, Smiths, and some info about Huey Long. Mr. Smith is about to be recognized by the La. State Library in Baton Rouge for his accomplishments. After I became aware of his memoirs, "Army Brat", and read it, I wrote to Story Line Press asking permission to reprint some of the excerpts from the book on the Winn Archives. They stated that for the sum of $75 they would gladly allow it. So, the other day, on a whim, I contacted Mr. Smith in MA where he resides when not residing overseas, and he graciously allowed the use of the excerpts from his book. Gregg

The listing for this cemetery on the web has a special grouping of marker inscriptions for Civil War Vets and then includes these men in their alphabetical list too. The birth dates differ in the two places. The men are: "Alford" DEAN 20 MAR 1842 or 2 MAR 1842; Died 13 DEC 1862. (Note-His name should read "Alfred".) Thomas DEAN 17 APR 1838 or 7 APR 1838; Died 13 DEC 1862. Both these men are thought to be brothers of my great grandmother, Martha J. C. Dean Carleton, wife of William F. Carleton. She died in Winn parish ca 1862-1863. I would greatly appreciate your assistance with this as I am many miles from Winn parish!! Thanks in Advance! Janell e-mail : jjg6808@earthlink.net

Hi: I'm sending out renewal notices this week to those that have not renewed. However, we expect to print and mail the April issue sometime the last of this month and you may not get your notice in time (if you live in Alaska) to renew, so please check your last issue to see if you have renewed. (We have 111 regular members that have not renewed!!!) In order to be able to mail bulk rate we must have a certain number of books in the mail out, otherwise it cost too much to mail them first class (and book rate per piece is only a nickle difference!) We are going to have to start mailing all issues during a regular mail out instead of when the check reaches us because of the cost. So the next mail out will be in August. This is what a lot of societies have been doing for years. If you are not sure, email me and I'll look your membership up. (I'm the one that handles all membership records.) If you are a new member and it is between mail outs, I'll send a "received" notice. AND... I have received several "new" members dues during the past month. I just have not gotten to the meeting rooms where the back issues are stored to be able to mail you the books, but will try to get that taken care of during our meeting on Saturday, so the back issues will go out next week for those new members we recieved and/or back issues ordered. Thanks, Annette who is neck deep in tax season and can't wait until April 15th.
Some time back someone sent a message across the list wanting info on C. C. or Columbus Dunn. Please contact me. For that matter, anyone working this line please contact me. Gregg Davies
Anyone related to or have any info on Winn Parish Sheriff J. H. Crawford who was m. 1st to a Hallmark, 2nd to Clarissa Sutton? Buried at Jerusalem. Thanks, Gregg
To All on the List, First of all, Ms. Henderson, we certainly welcome your assistance in obtaining the items you mentioned for donation. The Wood ladies you mention were indeed special folks and loved by all here who knew them. Regarding the map, I'm holding high bid on it right now and I thank all of you who've expressed interest in it and I also assure everyone if we win the bid, I'll frame it and place it at either the museum or our genealogy room. I figure it would serve more folks at the museum, though. Hopefully, the map will end up in the Winnfield Library. In and month or so my sister and I are planning a trip to Winnfield to place in the Winnfield Library archives, papers and photographs found among the things belonging to Miss Janie Lucille Wood and Miss Ruth Virginia Wood of Winnfield. Thanks for the message on the map, Kathy. I sure would love to have it, but I see that Gregg really wants it, so I'm not going to bid against him. Good luck, Gregg. Hope you get it.
