    1. [LAWINN-L] WWII and Terral
    2. Beverly
    3. Hi all, Just met a new Terral cousin (she's not a member of the list - yet...). She told me of two articles about her grandfather that were in the Winn Parish Enterprise - could not seem to locate the item in Gregg's transcriptions on the Parish site - but's its just the kind of thing that Gregg would find and transcribe! Here is what she stated about her grandfather Clifton J. Terral: "(he) wrote a letter home to Dodson when he was in the war and they printed part of it in the newspaper, "Winn Parish Enterprise" Thursday, June 7, 1945. And then the newspaper decided to reprint it on their historic page of the newspaper on Wednesday, June 2, 1999." Can anyone tell us how to obtain a copy/where to write to? Or is someone able to get a copy and we can reimburse for copy and postage? I would think this would also be of interest for the WWII project that several of you have been working on - Clifton died in 1999 so would not have been able to be part of the interviews - but might give additional info on another Veteran otherwise not included. 1. [LAWINN-L] John Richard Crain
    2. In last Sunday's Dallas Morning News was an artical about a man named John Richard Crain who had been killed in the line of Duty around May 24 1923. Some how the local Police Historian had discoved his name had not been put on their Memorial wall. So he started to dig and found proof and they will be doing that on May 15th. They are looking for decendants that might like to join them. They found a listing of his family as well from a newpaper artical 79 years ago. It listed his wife as Lucy, children as two sons Noel and Taylor daughters Lillie, Lorene and Mrs. J. W. Humphries. Burried out side of Cumby, in Hopkins County East of Dallas. "The Crain family plot includes a pair of white marble obelisks for the officer's mother and father, as well as one with a carved lamb on it for his 5-year old son." It is a pretty big artical. I have saved it for anyone who wants it. I hope this helps. Donnel Shaw

    2. Greggory E. Davies
    3. Anyone working McDonald in Winn? In particular, I'm interested in a W. J. McDonald who was a pvt. in the 12th LA. Conf. Inf, who died about Dec. 1878 and is supposed to be buried at or near Campti, Natchitoches Parish, and he was married to M. E. Plunkett in 1866 at Montgomery, LA. She listed herself on the pension as living at Montgomery, TX with grandchildren, R. C. Johnson or Mrs. R. C. Johnson. Also in the pension she mentions having lived at Robeline and having sold some land she owned at Marthaville, both in Natchitoches Parish. Thanks, Gregg Davies

    1. [LAWINN-L] Saturday May 11, 2002
    2. Hi everyone: Time to set your calender now for May 11, 2002. On the agenda is a motion to set the meetings for quarterly or bi-monthly. Your vote -- either way -- is important. The program will be by Cynthis M. Hofmeister on Finding Your Female Ancestors. Ms. Hosmeister is a professional genealogist. She recently moved from Salt Lake City to Lafayette. She taught genealogy research in SLC for the past 7 years and is currently teaching classes at the Lafayette Public Library. It should be an interesting business meeting and program. All officers are requested to be in attendance for the business meeting. Reminder: the library will only be opened during the time the librarian or her assistant can be in there. It will be closed during the business meeting and the program. Don't forget the food for Gregg. Annette
