Hi Everyone: It pleases me greatly to announce that Annie Jones has done a great job getting all the new and old books put on the shelf. She has completely redone the stacks and was able to add all 500+ of the new books. The exchange journals had to go UP and UP but someone will be tall enough to reach them if you need one. Hopefully we will get more bookcases before we get many more books. The library looks great. So don't forget to bring back any books you have checked out and get more. The next WPGHA meeting is Saturday. The library will open about noon. The business meeting will start at 12:30 and the program will start at 1pm Martha Jordan will be there to talk about what the DAR does and all its patriotic programs, including flag raising, etc. You can also ask her about the local chapter and any questions about what genealogy material the DAR may have that will help you trace your female ancestors. See you there. Annette
I need some information on the following families. I am trying to identify some of the people in some Probate Abstracts for the journal. Henry and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Brown. He died in 1894 and they had at least one child, Alice. Morris M. Lizenby. He was 18 in 1902. Who were his parents? Is the name spelled with an s or a z? Francis and Fannie Salsbery. They both died before 1903 leaving the following minor children: Clara, Laura, Floyd, Claude, and Noca[?]. Their only relative in Winn Parish was J. P. Frantom who was the tutor for the children. Rebel Lee (Hargis) McLamore. Her husband, W. F. McLamore died in 1893. They had 6 minor children: Lena, Waldon, Van Ross[?], Tommy, Milly and Audrey Alma. Sue Badeaux

Please reply to sender Subj: Genealogy Question Date: 9/9/2002 8:16:21 PM Central Daylight Time From: PcolaReg@aol.com I am trying to discover what happened to my great great grandmother's siblings. In 1860 the family of John R. and Amanda Bradley is listed in the census for Winn Parish. I lose the family until 1880 where Amanda is living with on of her daughters and her husband in Mississippi. The family story is that Martha (the daughter) named her children after her siblings because her siblings had died in a family tragedy. Comparing census records I have found that Martha did name her children after her siblings. Is there anything in Winn Parish history that would explain the tragedy. An epidemic or a Civil War battle? Can you help with this mystery? Regina L. Rea
Our thanks to Martha Jordan for sharing a picture of Peter Washington & Tennessee James Smith with us. It has been posted to the Winn Photo Album I webpage at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/winn.htm. Peggy
