The 1880 Winn census list Matthew's wife as Martha J. age 38 which would place her birth year as 1842. Are these two seperate wives or a numerical misprint on the birthdate? What became of Jane Emily or Martha J. after Matthew's murder?

I am trying to find out about his parents. His obit. states that he was born in Winn Parish, La. (circa 1894), and that he came to Donley Co, Texas in 1915 where he lived as a farmer until his death in 1970. I think his father's name was John Calvin Sullivan and his mother was Edna (Edie) Ann Adams. I don't know anymore than that. I can't find anything that tells me what happened to his parents or where they came from. I don't know which direction to go. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Shortly after WWII the Winn Parish Enterprise (and I think the News-American did one too) published a photo album of many, not all, Winn Parish Veterans. The photos are not arranged in alphabetical order nor or the pages numbered. Most of the past eight weeks that I've been down I didn't much feel like doing anything but the past week or so I compiled an index of this scarce book and I've sent it to the archives to be posted. Our local public library has, or had, might still, a copy of this precious book. When I get time I'll take a copy of the index up there and for those interested Peggy will post it to the archives page. Peggy, the file is: mristo01.txt 37KB "In Service To Our Country, WWII, Winn Parish" and I sent it to military file Gregg

Hi, In looking on the Winn page for some info that might help me find the Sutton family. I see a obituary of Charles H. Sutton that list my Uncle Clarence Sutton as a adopted son. My question is this: Is there any records of adoption available in Winnfield? I am curious about this. I'm writing for a friend, George Harrison Brewton who lives in Winn Parish. His father was Ernest Mathews, who never lived in Winn Parish as far as he knows, but around Delhi and Crowville. He had a brother named Lonnie who lived at the end of his life in Delhi and Eudora, Ark. Another brother lived around Ball or Pineville. A sister married a Bradley. I don't know dates. Do you know if your people came from around Cherokee in North Carolina? Does your William H. have brothers or sisters? Do you know who his parents are? What does the H. stand for? George doesn't know much about his father since his parents divorced about the time he was born. They lived in Delhi, La. and around Natchez, MS, while married, possibly near other Mathews relatives. He does have a photo of his father's father but doesn't know his name. Appreciate any help you can give us. Marcy
