Received some great news today. First of all, received a nice pledge from Tommy Joe Willis today, so thanks to Tommy Joe. Secondly, Denton Shell and I met today and we have agreed that the old historical society which merged with the genealogical association could afford to donate $500 to the project. This will go a long way toward knocking a hole in whatever debt we run up on this project. Coupled with the other donations we have received, we are near $700. Also, it will allow us to use funds already set aside to go toward the purchase of other stuff we will need, at some later date (microfilm reader/printer, etc.) Thanks to everyone. This is what allows one to continue to believe in their fellowman. Gregg -- Greggory E. Davies 120 Ted Price Lane Winnfield, LA 71483 [email protected]

From: May 12, 1904 Comrade or Southern Sentinel Obituary To the memory of Mrs. Attie Carson, (nee Bates) born Oct. 19, 1871, and died April 19, 1904, being 33 years and 6 months old. Sister Carson lived an unquestionable life, therefore no one would doubt her happiness in the kingdom of glory. She was a faithful wife, a tender, loving mother, and was devoted to her church. She was bereaved of her husband only a few months before she was called away. Her sorrow was deep and her troubles inexpressable, there being left to her all the care of four little children to raise up in a sin stricken world. But the Lord soon said it is enough and took her to himself, leaving the four little children, three girls and one boy, to the tender care of grandparents and other relatives to see to their welfare and training. Inasmuch as the Lord promises to be a father to the orphan, we pray that He may keep a watchful eye over these little ones. --------------753846C7D18F8B7EE491F197--

Heard Dead At twelve fifteen o'clock this morning the Angel Death again visited our city and this time knocked at the door of our fellowtownsman, Mr. John R. Heard, and took from him his beloved wife Loraine Heard. Funeral services were held at the family residence this afternoon and interment took place immediately after wards in the Ruston Cemetery. Quite a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends attended these services. Mrs. Heard was born June 7, 1848, being nearly sixty-two years of age. The family has resided in Ruston for several years, moving here from their country place near Dubach, and has many relatives and dear friends who join the Leader in extending deepest sympathy to them. Mrs. Heard was a beautiful character, the motherly kind of lady and the kind that made everyone she came in contact with love and revere her and she, therefore has hundreds of friends that will mourn her death.-The Ruston Leader, 30th. The profound sympathy of our whole people goes out to her two sons, W. E. and J. R. Heard, who are among our most valued citizens, in this hour of overwhelming bereavement. --------------4DADCC0E813C3AB5A3E238DD--

Allbright Died at his home in Grant Parish, La., February 18, 1908, John A. Allbright, aged about 80 years. He leaves a wife and six children, four girls and two boys, twenty-two grandchildren and one sister to mourn his loss. Most of them were at his death bed. He had been in feeble health for several years and said that he was ready and willing to go when the Lord called for him. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and had been a Confederate soldier and fought bravely in many bloody battles. About the last words that we could understand him to say were, "Lord, have mercy on me." Weep not dear grandmother and loved ones for grandfather has gone to rest. May we all so live that we can meet him on the bright celestial shore, where parting will be no more. He is resting with the Lord. The gates were opened wide for him to enter in. His picture is hanging on the wall, and there is his vacant ____ that cannot be filled. We miss him, yes, we miss him, but weep not for he is sweetly resting in the arms of the Lord. Written by his grandson, Albert M. Hyde. (Mr. John Albright was a pioneer Winn Parish settler living in the extreme southern portion of Winn near what is known today as Packton, La. He was a Confederate veteran and a member of Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 151, F. & A. M., Winnfield.) --------------CDDDD18DC4E8F6F36E9B7974--
