Funeral services were held at the Couley Methodist Church, at 5 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, with the Rev. Mrs. Lula Wardlow and Rev. A. N. Baum officiating. Assisting with the services were Rev. Henry Isgitt and Rev. C. C. Lee. Burial was in the Couley Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were J. E. Rikard, Gary Fletcher, Jesse Logan, Willard Smith, Perry Killingsworth, and Andrew Jones. Mrs. Stevens, born October 27, 1864, was the daughter of the late Rebecca O'Quin and James Fletcher of Grant Parish. She was married to Alfred Stevens in 1883 in Grant Parish and they established their home in the Couley Community of Winn Parish in about 1900. Mr. Stevens, a prominent farmer and stock raiser, passed away in 1944 at the age of 86. Mrs. Stevens, who affiliated with the Iatt Baptist Church at the age of 13, was widely known for her charming personality and kindly ways. She had legions of friends in Winn and Grant Parishes. She was the last of 14 children in her family. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ettie Nugent, Alexandria, Mrs. W. F. Owens, Baton Rouge, and Miss Millie Stevens of Couley; three sons, J. From: March 1, 1951 Winn Parish Enterprise Dudley Weeks Is Killed In Mishap On Dugdemona The body of Dudley Weeks, 19 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Weeks of Ward Ten, was recovered from Dugdemona Creek about nine hours after his boat had been located last Saturday at 2 a.m. He had met an accidental death when his single barrel 12 gauge shotgun had fired when the trigger hit a cross bar in the boat, and it was presumed that he fell in the water. His body was recovered by searchers who started a hunt Friday night when he failed to come out of the woods after going on a hunting trip Friday afternoon with two other youths, John Edward Garrett, 19, and Billy Hattaway, 18. It was reported that Hattaway and Garrett parted with Weeks about two miles below there the accident occurred. They hunted on foot while he proceeded up the creek in the boat. When he failed to rejoin them at dark, they came out, and a search was started later in the night when he did not return. His body was recovered with hooks by Red Blake about 15 feet from the boat. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Yankee Springs Baptist church with Rev. C. M. Robinson and Rev. Aaron Gorham officiating. Burial was in Yankee Springs Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were John Edward Garrett, Tracy Rushing, Jim Durbin, Charles Hutto, Clyde Barnette, and Julian Kelley. Allen, 43, native of Joyce, died from a heart attack at the Ogden Air Force Base, Utah, September 6. He was the son of the late Mrs. Leitha Allen and Walter Ray Allen. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Alexandria with burial following in the National Cemetery in Pineville, with the Chaplain of that Cemetery officiating. Military honors marked the last rites. A graduate of the Winnfield High School, Bryant was employed for a number of years as linotype operator at the News-American. He enlisted in the Air Force early in 1942, and at the close of World War II returned to civilian life in the Reserve, but was called to active duty in January, 1951. For eight years he was stationed at McChord AFB in Tacoma, Wash., then one year on the Island of Einewetok, and was then assigned to the Ogden, Utah Air Base, where he remained until his sudden death.
