Sharkey, 71, native of Scotin, Nebraska, died suddenly at his home in Winnfield Saturday night, Oct. 13. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Winnfield First Baptist Church with the pastor, Dr. W. L. Holcomb officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes. Burial was in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers. Mr. Sharkey was married to Miss Geneva Allen of Winnfield November 5, 1908. In the same year he was employed by the Crossett Lumber Company, Crossett, Arkansas, as chief boiler maker. He was later promoted to Superintendent of Mills and Electric Power Plant, and master mechanic of the A. D. and N. Railroad. He was retired in 1914, after which time he and his wife returned to Winnfield. He was a member of the Winnfield First Baptist Church, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, and 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Geneva Sharkey; one daughter, Mrs. C. H. Akin of Monroe; one sister, Mrs. T. J. Drewett of Mansfield; two nieces, Mrs. L. V. Hebert and Miss Amy Sue Hebert. Active pallbearers were Ray McEachern, Jack Beckley, J. W. Allen, Warren W. Tyler, 32, who was killed in action May 25 in Korea, were held Wednesday, Oct. 31, in a Shreveport funeral home, with the Rev. A. C. Lawton, pastor of the Blanchard Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery with graveside services conducted by units from Barksdale Air Force Base. Capt. Tyler was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Tyler of Mooringsport, and the grandson of Mrs. W. M. Tyler of Wren Acres, Winnfield. He was on a jet fighter reconnaissance mission at the time of his death. He is survived by his parents; his widow, the former Billie Crawford of Van Alstyne, Texas; three children, Tim, Glenn, and Barbara Louise; grandmothers, Mrs. Tyler of Winnfield and Mrs. Emma Lindsey of Mooringsport. Capt. Tyler enlisted in the Army after his graduation from Mooringsport High School and took officers training at Ft. Benning, Ga. He served in Hawaii for three years prior to World War II. He had been out of the army for a year when the Korean War started. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific. Funeral services were incomplete, pending the arrival of her children, but it was announced that they would probably be held some time Saturday at the Dodson Methodist Church. Burial will be made in the Transport Cemetery. Born in Winnfield, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Fisher, prominent Winnfield residents, Mr. Cleary was first married to Rawson F. Stovall of Dodson, to which union seven children were born. Mr. Stovall passed away in 1940. In the latter part of 1950 she was married to Mr. Robert N. Cleary of Winnfield. Vander Mayes, 71, of Sikes, died in a Winnfield hospital Sunday, August 12, 1951, following a stroke last week. He had been in ill health for many years. He was born and reared and lived his entire life in the Sikes Community, and was a retired logging contractor. His first wife, Elizabeth Newsom, died in 1947. About a year ago he married Mrs. W. R. From: August 23, 1951 Winn Parish Enterprise Phillip Tyler, 12, And Cousin Fatally Stricken Two Dodson children, first cousins, died this week of bulbar polio, and a Winnfield woman is under treatment now in the Mid-State Polio Center in Alexandria, it was reported by the Winn Parish Health Unit. Dead are Phillip Tyler, 12 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Tyler of Dodson; and his first cousin, three year old Cairn Cromwell, son of Mrs. Merle Cromwell of Jefferson, Iowa, who was visiting her father, C. A. Waller of Dodson. Mrs. Elizabeth Machen, wife of Winnfield Deputy Marshal D. C. Machen, is in the center for treatment. She was sent to the center for observation early this week, after being treated by Dr. Mosley here. Her case was reported as definitely polio Wednesday by the Health Unit. According to the Health Unit report, Phillip Tyler died Wednesday about 6 a.m. of bulbar polio. He was taken to the center on Monday, after his illness was diagnosed by Dr. G. H. Robinson of Jonesboro. His attack was in the latest stages when the child was taken to the center and he received iron lung treatment in an attempt to check it. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Tyler; a sister, Delores, 15, and two brothers, Gayle, 14, and Stanley, seven months. Funeral services are scheduled today in Jonesboro for young Tyler. Cairn Cromwell died during the early morning today. Relatives in Winnfield, Mrs. Charleston Teegarden and Mrs. Ora Teegarden, were notified this morning about 4:30. The three year old child was admitted to the Polio center Tuesday morning. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Cromwell, and one sister, Judith, age 5. The father is enroute from a Wyoming Army base to Alexandria. Funeral arrangements were not known Thursday morning. Mrs. Elliott was born near Sikes, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Al C. Kelly. She had lived in the parish all her life. Survivors are her husband, Alfred L. From: November 29, 195l Winn Parish Enterprise Harrison Wardlow Of Montgomery is Killed in Wreck Funeral services for James Harrison Wardlow, 24 year old Montgomery bank teller, were held Sunday at St. Patrick Church in Montgomery following his death Friday, Nov. 23, from injuries received in an auto accident north of Montgomery. Wardlow was fatally injured when a pickup truck he was driving was involved in a head-on collision with a two-ton truck driven by Eugene Milton Johnson, 24, of Montgomery. Johnson is being held on a charge of negligent homicide, under $1,500 bond, it was reported. He was treated for a broken foot. G. S. Givens of Sulphur, a passenger in Wardlow's truck, was treated and released from Corkern Clinic in Natchitoches following the accident. It was reported that Johnson was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the accident. Funeral services for Wardlow were under the direction of Rev. A. P. Balsun, with burial in the Natchitoches Cemetery under direction of a Natchitoches funeral home. Bynum, 30, grandson of Mrs. Alma Jones of Winnfield, was being brought to Monroe early this week for burial, following his death in Colorado Springs, Colo., last week. Bynum, recently returned from Korea, was reported shot to death by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Bynum, 30, who is being held by authorities in Colorado Springs without charge. A report by the Associated Press stated that Mrs. Bynum, his wife of seven years, shot him in the heart and lungs. The report stated Mrs. Bynum said "Something was wrong with his mind. He came back acting like a psycho." She is reported having shot her husband as he entered their car and with his head in her lab, drove him to the police station. She told authorities she got the pistol from the glove compartment while her husband was in the grocery store buying bread. Bynum is survived by his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert C.
