Luneau of Dallas, Texas, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Roy of Five Forks in Winn Parish, was killed when the car he was driving was in collision with a truck driven by Steve Purvis, colored, about four miles north of Chatham, last Sunday. Three other Winn Parish youths, Harold Roberts, Harvey Shumake, and Freddie C. Shumake, were injured in the accident, which occurred about 4 a.m. Sunday. They were taken to a Monroe hospital for treatment and were reported in serious condition. Purvis, driver of the 1 « ton Ford truck, is being held in the Jackson Parish jail awaiting action of the March Grand Jury term, it was reported by Edward H. Ayers, Jackson Parish Clerk of Court. A coroner's inquest was held Wednesday afternoon by Jackson Parish Coroner Dr. E. Blume, and the verdict of death by "being hit with a ...truck driven by Steve Purvis by drunk and reckless driving" was field in the Jackson Parish clerk's office. Hayes, 46, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duke Hayes, who formerly operated a mercantile business in Winnfield. He was a president of Standard Wood Preserving Company of Shreveport. Mrs. Hayes was the former wife of William J. Perkins, who was killed during World War II. They had one son, William, Jr., who survives. Mr. Perkins was a nephew of Mrs. W. W. Allen, Mrs. J. L. Guthrie, 32, of Calvin, was killed last Thursday after being thrown from a lumber truck when it went out of control about one mile south of the Goldonna Road on the Calvin-Gum Springs gravel, reports Winn Sheriff C. M. Robinson. Roy Mercer, Guthrie's brother in law, was driving the truck when the accident occurred. Guthrie, with his mother, Mrs. Carrie Guthrie, and his sister, Maud Guthrie, were passengers and were enroute from Mansfield to their house. Guthrie was on the back of the lumber float with some furniture they were moving. According to reports from the family, they unexpectedly met another vehicle and Mercer swerved to pass it. Sheriff Robinson stated that the lumber truck traveled 174 feet down the right ditch, came back onto the road, and went into the ditch on the opposite side after passing the other vehicle. Guthrie was thrown into the ditch and suffered fatal injuries including a broken neck and fractured skull. Funeral services were held Friday at 3 p.m. in Bethlehem Baptist Church, Rev. J. D. Boyd of the Mansfield Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers. McKeithen, 63, retired sawmill worker, was buried Monday at 2 p.m. in Pollock, following his death Sunday in a local hospital. A native of South Carolina, Mr. McKeithen was living in Winnfield at the time of his death. Funeral services were held from the Hixson Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield, with Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Etha McKeithen, one daughter, Mrs. Cora Childers of Winnfield; one brother, Albert, of Natural Bridge, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Cooper, Columbia, N. C., and Miss Ida McKeithen of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and one niece, Miss Ruby Childers of Winnfield. Pallbearers were Johnny Waters, Harvey Rhymes, D. C. Warner, H. W. Tarver, Everett Burke, and J. L. Looking for additional info on the Sanders Family from Louisiana. My great grandfather on my paternal grandmothers side was Dudley Sanders b. Feb. 3, 1844 in Ms. d. Feb. 16, 1878), married Permelia Dian (Walker) Sanders (b. Apr. 27, 1849 d. May 3, 1930). Dudleys father was Moses. Dudley and Dian had six children: Martha Melrose Tennessee Sanders b. Aug. 7, 1866, d. Sep. 20, 1871 George Moses Sanders b. Apr. 10, 1868 d. Nov. 19, 1870 Marshal Augustus Sanders b. Apr. 7, 1869 d. unknown Edna Amensa Sanders b. Apr. 7, 1872 d. unknown Susan Idonia Sanders b. Jul.. 12, 1875, d. May 19, 1951 Isaac Dudley Sanders b. Oct. 4, 1878 d. Jul. 17, 1879 Dudley died in 1878 and Permelia remarried William Terrell Sanders. They had two children. Stacy Anerina Sanders b. Sep. 26, 1882 d. Jan. 15, 1953 William Whalles Coalmon Sanders b. Jan. 22, 1886 d. Aug. 24, 1943 Edna Sanders married J.T... Tatum on Aug. 4, 1898 in Sabine Parish. Susan Sanders married John Cooley on Dec 25, 1895 in Sabine Parish. From: August 9, 1951 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites Held for James Mathew Fletcher Funeral services for James Mathew Fletcher, 58, of Verda were held at the Verda Baptist Church Sunday, August 5, at 3 p.m. Rev. Shelton Spears and Rev. Harold Davis officiated at the services and Rev. O'Connor presented the flag at the graveside. Mr. Fletcher died at the Veterans hospital Friday, August 3, after a long illness. Burial was in Iatt Cemetery. A World War I veteran, Mr. Fletcher was born in Winn Parish and made his home in the Verda Community. He was a member of Verda Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Tressie Fletcher; one son, Wilmer Fletcher, and his wife, Myrtle Fletcher; one granddaughter, Agneleen, all of Montgomery. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Lucille F. Dyess, Winnfield; Mrs. Inez Wyatt, St. Maurice; Mrs. Hodnett, Colfax; Mrs. Stella Pollard, Dry Prong; two brothers, Warren Fletcher and Gary Fletcher, both of Montgomery; three aunts, Mrs. J. H. From: August 9, 1951 Winn Parish Enterprise Hargis Resident Dies In Her Home From Pneumonia Funeral services for Mrs. Miranda Bazar from the Hargis Community were held at the Mars Hill Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock with Rev. O. K. O'Connor of Hargis and Rev. Rufus Kitchingham of Monroe in charge of the services. Burial was in Mars Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Bazar died from virus pneumonia which she had had seven times before. The 89 year old woman was unable to get around during the last six years of her life. She was a member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church. Surviving her are five daughters, Mrs. R. F. McIlwain of Jena, Mrs. E. D. Wiggins of Alexandria, Lucy, Bessie, and Marie Bazar, all of Route 1, Montgomery; one son, Ernest Bazar; a brother, John Kelley of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Rennie Jennings of Montgomery; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
