Greetings: I have just completed approximately 5000 Oaths of Office for Winn Parish. They have been submitted to the archives and I am sure Peggy will get them listed soon. This file will include all oaths of office on file at the Winn Parish Office of the Clerk of Court. Keep in mind the courthouse burned in 1868, 1885, and 1917. The 1917 fired was not a total loss of records so this file will include the oaths taken since 1885 up to yesterday. Actually, some oaths prior to 1885 are in the books, but not many. I have obtained from the La. State Archives the oaths of office that were on record from 1852 'til ?, (I can't recall right now). I will get those posted later when I find where I have put them. That is a valuable find in that none of these are recorded locally and I doubt anyone realized they existed. I stumbled upon them one day in Baton Rouge, nosing around where I had no business. Enjoy, Gregg

I've just loaded a new file to the CHURCH RECORDS category entitled "Deaths Recorded in Central Baptist (Winn) Assoc. Minutes, 1860-1956". The file was too large to send to the list but the following submitter's note will give you an idea of the content: [SUBMITTER'S NOTE: By way of explanation for all non-Baptists .... Baptist churches band together in certain geographical areas to form Associations. Once a year they would come together for the annual "Associational Meeting". Each church submitted a letter giving membership statistics, financial data, and other items of information, of which the names of the deceased of their membership for the past year were recorded. These associational minutes sometimes furnish the only surviving source for a death date. I found reference to the death of one of my ancestors and a very close approximate death date from this source that I could not find elsewhere. I have extracted all the deaths mentioned by name from the associational minutes for the years shown below. During the early years only ministers and/or deacons were listed. After 1908, all lay-member deaths were also listed.] Peggy Beaubouef http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/winn.htm

Just learned form Annette that we received a nice donation from Mrs. W. A. Jones of Ruston today. Thanks Mrs. Jones, and my regards to your fine sons and the Mr. Gregg
Thanks to the following who have made contributions since our last meeting. Dale Smith Edith Giles Kari Gaar Now, I don't feel comfortable singling anyone out and have debated all day as to how to handle this. Some ask that their donation be anonymous, and I understand there modesty, but I feel they should be recognized. We are thankful for all donations, regardless of the amount, large or small. However, I want to especially thank Mr. Jimmy Terrill, son of the late, great, longtime Winn Parish Assessor, Mr. Harper Terrill and longtime Winn Parish educator, Mrs. Wilma Terrill. Mrs. Terrill was one of those teachers that today's educators could pattern themselves after and be proud to do it. Mr. Terrill made a large donation today and I hope Mr. Terrill does not mind me singling him out. His donation not only put us in the black, but will enable us to do some of those things we had put down for future projects, inasfar as the building project is concerned. I know I speak for the entire association when I say to Mr. Jimmy, a huge thanks. Gregg

Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. From: August 30, 1928 Winn Parish Enterprise Mrs. Thomas Dabney Weir It was with much sorrow that the Winnfield Methodist Sunday School learned of the death of the mother of our beloved pastor, Rev. C. C. Weir, on Saturday, August 25, 1928, at her home in Houston, Texas. Although she had reached the ripe old age of 84, she was still the mother to a large family of children whom she had brought into the world, and the parting was just as sad as it would have been had she left them at any other age. While we sorrow with our dear pastor in his great loss, we rejoice with him in being the son of such a wonderful mother, and that she was permitted to dwell amongst her children for so long a period and minister unto them as only a good mother can. Only those of us who lost our mothers in early life can really appreciate what Mother Weir has meant to her children during her long and useful life. The passing of one of these old saints, while it leaves more distinctly a vacant place, like the passing of a giant oak that has shaded us all the days of our lives, makes Heaven more real, and the thoughts that mother is over there makes us more determined to so live that when our summons comes we will be permitted to dwell with her and the other loved ones who have gone before. Therefore, be it resolved that we deeply sympathize with Brother Weir in his great loss and pray that Heaven's richest blessings may rest and abide with him even down to a ripe old age in the labors for the Master. Respectfully, P. K. Abel Tracy L. Harrel Mrs. B. W. Bailey --------------801C8954BE8E03FA9C16167D--
