Greetings: It is with deep regret that I inform all of you that Roy Johnson, our treasurer and good friend, passed away around 4:30 p.m. today at the VA Hospital, Houston, Texas. I am not yet aware of funeral arrangements but will try and post them as soon as I find out. Roy was truly dedicated to our organization and came by my office last week, the day before he left for Houston, to discuss some matters pertaining to WPGHA. Gregg
I would like to hear from anyone researching Fatheree/Fatherree/Fautheree/Fauthrie and so forth in Winn. Thanks, Scottie

Just wanted to comment and add a little bit to the Walker article in the new Legacies and Legends. Imagine my surprise when I opened it up and found my line staring back at me. My Walker line goes from Flournoy and Hester Walker to Elizabeth Lucinda Walker and Franklin Benjamin Pepper to Clarence Pepper(s) and Eulola Smith and finally to my Grandfather Homer Peppers. Elizabeth and Franklin are buried in the Old Jordon Cemetery in Catahoula Parish. The headstone dates for Elizabeth Walker and Frank Peppers state: Peppers, Elizabeth Walker 1860-1900; Peppers, Frank 1863-1900. My Grandfather Homer and his brother Frank were the ones who erected the stone. I know for sure they got Franklin's birthdate wrong. According to census records (and I'm remembering this off the top of my head at the moment) Franklin was born two years earlier. He was also a Pepper, not a Peppers. We now have an s on the end of our name thanks to Clarence's sisters who raised him when their parents died within a week of each other of the flu(according to family legend). I just spoke with Charles Bice, who flew out to be with Roy today. They went in to prepare a valve, but found a main artery coming out of the heart, going north, but that artery was calcified. It had to be cleaned out, which is what caused the scare. The heart valve was repaired OK, and Roy is in recovery. The doctors are cautiously optimistic giving a relatively good percentage of recovery. The next few hours are critical. Mr. Bice is optimistic at present and said the pulse rate was good as was the breathing. He said the doctors were much more encouraged after the surgery than when the discovered the calcified artery during. Gregg
I just got this update from a friend of someone who is out there at present with Roy. His aorta was messed up, and they had to get permission during the surgery to do more than they intended. The heart is weak but is beating on its own. The biggest worry is aorta collapsing. Keep the faith. Gregg
I was just told second hand that our treasurer, Roy Johnson, had his heart surgery today and that there is some concern about his condition. If I learn more, I'll pass it on to the list. That is all I know. If anyone else has an update, please let us know. Gregg
Greetings: I have about a dozen lined up to come Saturday morning, if they all show, and have asked them to come at various times between 9 and 12, so we need to be at the main floor lobby around 8:30 ready to go. I had a dangerous thought today while driving to Alexandria. We might want to consider doing the same type project with Korean War and Vietnam War vets, but maybe we ought to get through with this one first. Just a thought. Gregg
Unable to read the message very well but could this be the LIberty Chapel Church/Cemetery at Williana, in Grant Parish, about ten miles south of Packton? La. 472, if I am correct, intersects with US 167, across from the Liberty Chapel, which is only a short distance west of US 167. Confusion exists in that La. 472 goes east to Breezy HIll and loops back around and comes out on US 167 N. about five miles south of Winnfield. Also, if you get on the parish road at the intersection of US 167 and LA 472, and proceed east, it will turn north and into Winn Parish, and this is better known as the Old Alexandria Highway. It goes through the Kisatchie National Forest, the old Allbright's Prairie, the old Cedar Community, near the old Tide Community, the old Macedonia Community, and eventually comes out at the Winn Parish Fairgrounds, on La. 34. Thank you for the warning. A message has been sent to Kenneth Jordan requesting that he run a virus check. As a safety percaution, I've removed photos received by Kenneth and will have him resubmit when his computer is cleaned. Fortunately, I, too, run Norton's Anti-Virus and received a warning. As a reminder to everyone... keep your Anti-Virus program updated and regularly scan your system. Unfortunately, for Kenneth there are many folks out there who do not care about the damage they are causing others when they invent these worms. Jo

Susan, I am really interested in those photos you have. Is there anyway you can send them to me e-mail? I would like for you to think about submitting them to the Winn Genealogical Web page for family photos for Winn Parish. Dr. Drury is very important to me because I have tried to research him and his kin Greenbury White. Can you tell me where the Dr. and Greenbury is buried? Were they brothers? I have found them in the census and know they were in Caldwell Parish in 1850. Can you tell me where they were before that? Did they have connections in Texas? I would love all the info. you have because I think I can go back in my files and find others who are looking at them too. Thank for your help. Diane Hanson
Susie, I am trying to link my W.HENRY WHITE to these Whites in the Sikes area. My gg grandmother was ANNIE LUCAS who married a W.Henry White and they had a son named JOSEPH ALEXANDER WHITE. Joseph was married first to a OCTAVIA GORHAM and here's the not so easy part. After producing a good size family that my grandfather DAVID WHITE was born into, Joseph's wife died bearing twins. My grandfather David White was older at that time and married a lovely girl named EVERLEE TARVER. Joseph began to court my grandmother's (his daughter in law, Everlee Tarver White) SISTER named ARMINDA TARVER GILMORE (whose husband had died) and they married producing another large family. Confusing? How many years did it take me to understand all of this? Lots!! Anyway I have been researching the Whites in the Sikes area because I believe they are all related. If you have any information on your Whites and any kin that came to visit them or in your records as W.H. or Henry White or other related names! please let me know. Thanks. Diane Hanson

Greetings: Several of us had a very productive meeting today and I will try and give a report of where we are and what we're about to do. We will forward a press release Monday to the Enterprise and to KVCL announcing that we will begin interviewing (we have already completed a few) on Saturday, August 18, at 9 a.m. at the Winn Parish Courthouse. I think the release will also mention that we will interview on the following Saturday, August 25. Several have taken a list of vets and will call them this week to try and get them there, and they will stagger the appointments so we don't have a lot of folks sitting around having to wait. Also, Carolyn Phillips of the museum, furnished a mailing list and ran labels, and we will send a mailout to all vets we have on file who live in Winn Parish, inviting them to attend. We will have about five offices, maybe more, in which to conduct the interviews. We have about eight or ten folks lined up to conduct the interviews. Any of you who are able to come help that day, bring a mini-cassette recorder if you have one, and if not, we will try and get enough on hand to suffice. The WGHA has purchased three and the sheriff's office will loan us a couple. After Saturday the 18th, we will have a little experience and will continue on to the 25th, inviting those who were not able to come on the 18th. We are prepared to work on this project through sometime in October as the material and info will have to be forwarded to Northwestern State University in October for them to transcribe, etc. If anyone on the list who was at today's meeting sees where I have left off any info, please respond to the entire list so everyone will know what I screwed up or failed to screw up. Thanks, Gregg
Im kin to some White's from the Sikes,Louisiana area! Emma Elizabeth Underwood White born Oct. 9, 1869 died May 26,1952.(Her husband was Andrew Jackson White Born,Feb. 17, 1869 & died Nov. 7, 1951.) I believe that Andrew Jackson's father was Dr Drury White.from the Sikes area. Emma & Andrew's daughter Isabell White Smith born Dec 24, 1892 & died Jan 1, 1972 that married Walter P Smith. I have some photo's from news paper clippings of this White family.Im really kin to Emma & Isabell through my Underwood line, but have some photo's & info on these families.
