    1. [lawestba] Washington Parish Meeting:
    2. From:    saks@huntnet.net (Sylvia Smith) The next meeting of the Washington Parish Genealogical & Historical Society will be on Tues, Sept. 11 at 5:30 pm at the Franklinton Branch of the Washington Parish Library. One of our members, Mrs. Vicki Knight will present a program entitled "Preserving the Memories of Your Family and Friends."  It will be a workshop/demonstration about how to record memories and preserve history. Vicki is a school teacher/librarian who has more than eight years experience and has completed over fifty recordings of the late Mrs. Zuma Magee and the late Mr. Daunton Gibbs, parish historians, and other senior citizens, family members, and parish residents, WWII veterans, and more.  Mrs. Knight's desire is to preserve local history and heritage and to create this desire in others of recording first-hand accounts of memories. The workshop will be an informal "how-to" using various methods utilized by Mrs. Knight through experience and trial and error.  She will 1) make suggestions for what to consider before, during, and after the interview;   2)  cover the use of audio and video recordings in capturing and preserving history;  and    3)  provide follow-up that suggests ways to document and preserve the recordings. The workshop will consist of sharing her methods and helpful hints and a brief demonstration.  Handouts will be provided. This workshop is for all ages-- students and adults-- for anyone who has heard interesting and treasured stories and who wishes to learn a good way to preserve them.  Everyone is invited to attend!
