The meetings of the Washington Parish Genealogical and Historical Society are the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. We meet alternately at the libraries in Bogalusa and in Franklinton. This month, on May 8, we will meet in Franklinton. The library is at the corner of Free St. and Main St. next to the Elementary School and across the street from the Junior High School. Our speaker this month will be Mr. John Hunley who will be making a presentation on the first submarine ever to be used by the US against an enemy. This was the CSS H.L. Hunley, used by the South during the Civil War against the Union ships. Mr. Hunley was present last month when the old submarine was pulled from its watery grave off the coast of the Carolinas. He has been researching the Hunley family and the designer of the sub for 37 years. (The last will and testament of the designer of the ship was located in the Covington, LA library). Please inform any interested persons that they are cordially invited to attend any of our meetings. S Smith
