Hello fellow genealogists, Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 10 at the office of the Washington Parish Clerk of Court, Johnny D. Crain. Mr. Crain will be the guest speaker. The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm in the Courthouse office in Franklinton. We will have the opportunity to have a :hands on: meeting as we browse through records dating back to 1897. Mr. Crain will explain the types of records located in his office and tell us how to use and find them. These consist of land records, mortgages, wills, civil and criminal documents, and marriage records. Several of the staff members of the Clerk of Court office will be there to assist us. Also to be included in his presentation is the new birth certificate system and the state requirements regarding the issuing of birth information. Information on application for passports will be included, too. If you need help using any of these types of records in your family history research, this is a meeting that you will not want to miss. This is intended to help beginners as well as other family history enthusiasts. Both members and nonmembers are invited to attend. Barbara

Subject: STEVENS FAMILY REUNION Once again it is getting close to the time of the Stevens Family Reunion. I am getting excited at the possibility of seeing many friends and relatives at this year's annual gathering. We will meet again this year at the Hammond Lions Club on Morris Road on the second Saturday in September, September 14, 2002. As those of you who were present last year will recall, we decided to invite and include the Calmes Family in our reunion this year since so many of our Stevens Family are also related to the Calmes Family. We hope by combining both families, our attendance will also pick up. As in the past, registration will begin at 10:00 a. m. Come early and stay as long as you wish. We encourage you to bring the children since there is plenty room outside for fun and games. We are again asking each attending person over 12 years of age to pay $3.00 to defray the cost of renting the Lions Den and other incidentals that may come up in preparations for this year's reunion. Bring a food dish and soft drinks of your choice (no alcoholic beverages, please). Bring pictures, mementos, artifacts, etc. that may be of interest to those attending. There will be a short business meeting, during which time recognition will be given to the oldest person present, the youngest person present, the original family with the most descendants present and the person(s) who have traveled the farthest to attend. A short memorial service will honor those of the family who have passed away since our last reunion. If you know of someone who has passed away during the year, please bring that information so they can be recognized. We would also like to announce any new births in the family again this year. IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS WHO MAY NOT RECEIVE THIS NOTICE OR WHO HAVE NOT ATTENDED A PREVIOUS REUNION, PLEASE EXTEND AN INVITATION TO THEM TO ATTEND THIS YEAR. Looking forward to seeing you again this year and let's try to make this the largest and most successful reunion we have had. Sincerely, Doris H. Johnston P. O. PRESS RELEASE FOR AUGUST : COCA-COLA MEMORABILIA EXHIBIT AT THE VARNADO STORE MUSEUM, FRANKLINTON, WASHINGTON PARISH, LA Aug. 2, 2002 FOR RELEASE NOW AND AT EXHIBIT TIME WHERE: VARNADO STORE MUSEUM, FRANKLINTON, WASHINGTON PARISH, LA (936 Pearl Street, behind the Courthouse) WHEN: Saturday, August 24, 2002 10 - 4 p.m. Sunday August 25, 2002 1 - 4 p.m. (Friday, August 23, 2002 by appointment only) The Varnado Store Museum board and volunteers invite all who are interested for an exciting display of Coca Cola memorabilia in the century-old general store museum. The museum, which recently hosted a Smithsonian WWII exhibit, is located at 936 Pearl Street, just behind the Court House in Franklinton, LA. Many items, from bottle openers and trays to signs and antique coolers, will be exhibited. Since Dr. John Pemberton of Atlanta GA sold his secret formula for Coca Cola in 1887, the company has produced a wide range of promotional items to advertise its product. In an age lacking the mass media of today, Coca Cola used a multitude of items to publicize their product, including trays, bottles, signs, toys, calendars and more that have become prized collectibles today. Several collectors in Washington Parish will be sharing their Coca-Cola treasures during the exhibit at the Varnado Store Museum. There will also be books available to visitors showing the value of antique Coca-Cola items. On Saturday the Coca Cola wagon will be on hand to serve this most popular drink, as well as several food items. The Museum will be open on Friday, August 23 by appointment only and open to the public on Saturday, August 24 from 10:00 to 4:00 and Sunday, August 25 from 1:00 to 5:00. We are looking for information on Jean Job Tousinau who married Anne Marie Courtain. Church records show 4 children born to this couple. (last name was shown as Jurineau in church records.) They were married 7 Oct 1807, St Joseph Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. She was the daughter of Thomas Courtain and Genevieve Bonvillain. The children found in the Chruch records are Marie Genevieve Tousinau B: 1812 and D:1831 M: Nathaniel Grayless she died about 6 months after her marriage to Nathaniel Jean Francisco Tousinau B: 1815 Augustine Tousinau B: 1817 Marie Louise Tousinau B: 1820 We believe that Daniel Tousinau was also a son of this couple as he is listed in court record as the tutor of the minor children of Jean Job and Anne Marie after their death, and is listed as the brother of the minor children. It is also stated that Jean Job was his father. We have not been abel to find a birth record for him. On the 1810 Census it shows Jean Job Tousinau as having one male under 10. We think he was born in 1810, and the 1850 Wilkinson Co census where he moved shows him as 40 and being born in LA.. We also feel that he married Margaret Fauner of West Feliciana Parish and had a child. On his application for a land grant it states that he was a man with wife and child, at that time he was a resident of Point Coupee Parish. We have not been able to find a record of the birth of the child, or the death of the child or Margaret. We are also trying to find the record of Jean Job Tousinau's partership with Pierre Allain November 4, 1807 where they operated a lodging for travelers, providing pasturage for spent horses as well. We are also trying to find when Thomas Courtain came to LA as well as when Jean Job Tousinau came to LA. Thank You Billy and Delores Tousinau
