    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Mathis (Matthis) Longino Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EEB.2ACE/744.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Diane, Thank you so much. It seems your William (H.) & my William (L.) are not the same, but maybe related. Your friend Harvey mentioning the "straight" Bill & "stuttering" Bill would really get my dad's attention. It was my dad who asked me to research this and he told me that my grandmother was adament about her maiden name being spelled with just one T...... M A T H I S. According to the story my dad just told me, it was my ggrandfather who stuttered and people back then just spelled what they heard and the family named started being spelled with TWO T'S (MATTHIS). This is really great. I have already done alot of research on my last name (my dad's & many generations back) and some research on my mother's family. Taking it back another step. I would love to talk to Harvey. I'll email you. Please pass it on. By the way, according to my dad, our William L. married an Albritton also. Maybe a relative of the wife of your William H. or maybe a mix-up. Do you know? or ma! ybe Harvey would know. Also believe that William L. had son Samuel Houston Mathis. Do not know current (living?) line on this Sam but what I have is Sam Houston m. Sela (Celia) Martin son Lloyd Mathis m. Lula Marie Unruh son Harold Lloyd Mathis m. Linda Jane Young son David Lloyd Mathis m. Sandra Lee Kleppe(?) son Justin Taylor Mathis. There is one other line I know of...David Ellison Matthis <<(spelling?). He m. Nancy Ann McMillian. Maybe your friend Harvey is from THAT line (which is also my line). Thanks again. Kathy Longino (ggrandaughter of William L. Mathis & ? Albritton).
