Dear voter, For the first time in history, a federal appeals court has declared the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional because it includes the words "under God." The government is now considering whether to appeal the ruling. If the decision stands, children will no longer recite the pledge in public schools. Should the ruling stand? Or should the government fight it? Log on to http://www.vote.com to tell Congress and President Bush what to do. Vote.com is asking voters across America if the court's ruling was right or wrong. Irene's parents were Grover Hardy & Fanny Briggs. I believe Grover & Ulyses were brothers. I have found that a great source for documenting the history of the Vermillion Parrish ancestors is the U.S. CENSUS records. In particular, those available between 1870 and 1930 have many of the ancestors listed. These records can generally be obtained via most local public libraries and especially college and university libraries. Also check to see if there is a Federal Archives and Records Center (part of U.S. General Services Administration) near you or one of the Later Day Saints (Mormom Church) facilities near you. I do not know where these families lived before they located in Vermillion Parrish. I've heard various stories over the years I can share with you later. At the court house in Abbeyville there are also a few records that may be helpful regarding land ownership, probate, law suits, etc; but there are not many due to past flo! oding, etc. We have been to Briggs Memorial and the 2 graveyards on several occassions. Just got back to town after week away, so have to run. Wife is going to Abbeyville in a few days to visit her mom.

We are now looking for the Washington/Wash that was born in TN. in 1822 and so was his mother and father. He married Malinda(last name unknown-b.Dec.1847) was also born in TN. It show that her father was born there as well. Her mother was born in Virginia. Malinda and Washington was found in Vermillion Parish in S.E. Louisiana on a Census record. (The Census record state that Malinda was mulatto.) Then they traveled to Texas with slaveowner brother:James Jackson and Humphrey Jackson .(Probably slave trade) We would like to know Malinda's last name(if possible). But most important is information on Wash. Our Texas Washington Humphrey passed the name on through several generations.
