My Grandfather, Willie Stakes (later Stokes) was born there in 1907. She was married 7 times to 5 men and would "divorce" them by firing at them with her revolver. Her Mother was a Mouton or a Broussard, but she was a descendant of Marin Mouton, her uncle (or brother, not sure) was Hebert Mouton, when he died it was not in the good grace of the church so he was denied a funeral, and from what I understand he did not like banks and buried all his money on his land. After his burial the family spent days digging around his land. I hope this jogs someones memory.

I'm not sure if I've talked to you before about this or not. What do you need to know about the Catalon family? Most of the information I have came from Fr Hebert's books and family records. The Mercier/ Barras family married into the Catalon family. My mother's cousin Clebert Barras married Elia Catalon in 1893 in St Martin Parish. I don't know what happened to their marriage or her, but he later married Elodea Verret in Iberville Parish in 1914. I believe Elodea is the mother of Clebert's only child Wilfred Barras. I am seeking anyone who may know anything about him. I suspect Elodea may have died in child birth, I haven't located a death certificate for her yet. Clebert later married another girl in Iberville Parish by the name of Louise Amelina DeCuir in 1926. I also suspect that Clebert moved to Plaquemine, Iberville Parish, LA for work, following his half brother Terrance Mercier who also married a girl in Iberville Parish by the name of Eunice Verret, a cousin of Elodea. The Mercier connection to the Catalon family comes in when Dolsin Sellers married Marie Cordelia Catalon, a sister to Elia (I have a picture of Dolsin & Cordelia). Their son, Romeal or Romauld Sellers, married my grandfather's sister Josephine Mercier. h Cherryl Forbes Montgomery g CherrylM@AOL.com My Louisiana Afri-Creole Family //\\//\\//\\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\/ /\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\\//\//\\//\\//\\//\\// Researching Southwest Louisiana parishes of Lafayette, St. Martin, St. Landry, and Iberia Parish surnames of MERCIER, WILTZ, ESCLAVON, DeCLOUET, MASSE, GREGOIRE, JEAN LOUIS, SHAY (CHAIX), GUIDRY, BASILE (CHIASSON), BARRAS, LeMELLE, LeBLANC, GUILLUAME, HENRY, and SIMON Also researching Louisiana old West Florida Parishes of East Baton Rouge, Livingston, East and West Feliciana surnames of FORBES, DUNN, CARTER, SCOTT, DeARMOND, EVANS, RICKS, BROWN, GAINES, CURRY, PATTERSON and ANDREWS.

The best way to find out about your Albert is to try and find the marriage records for Vermilion Parish for your Pennie and Alphonse. If the above Albert is your Albert then your are related to me. I'm related to the LeMaires and the Stephens lines. Terry Larson mncajun@charter.net
