From Google search The following is part of an article posted Feb. 1, 2004 in Richmond Matters-- At the close of the 19th century, Ernest Lee Bolling was a well regarded piano teacher, giving lessons from his home on Floyd Avenue. A member of the "old Bolling family of Virginia" that traces its lineage back to Pocahontas, Bolling had studied first with his father, William, and then with Bernard Courlaender, court pianist to the King of Denmark. An avid composer, poet and chronicler of life in Richmond and its environs, he was a frequent contributor to local newspapers and music magazines. By 1918, Bolling had relocated his piano studio, renamed the Bolling School of Music, to larger quarters across the street, where he also assembled a music library impressive enough to receive mention in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Bolling's wife, Mary Celeste, and his son, T. Winston, joined him in teaching piano to young people throughout the greater Richmond area. Their pupils performed at such venues as the Woman's Club and Corley Auditorium, as well as on WRVA radio. After Bolling's death in 1934, his son continued to operate the Bolling School of Music until his retirement in the early 1960s. The number of people who received music lessons there could easily reach several hundred.

I am going to try to go to the Virginia State Library this week with all of this new info you've given to me and see what I can find out. The idea about donating these materials to the Vermillion Historical Society sounds like the right idea! Then if there are any relatives alive, they can at least view these items, and the papers will be safe in the meantime. Great suggestion! -Peggy

I think I'd like to check the Vermilion Parish census of 1910 and see who the Bollings were here. I'm almost sure our library has that year. If not it would be a while before I could check. Do you have a subscription to the census online? I dont or I'd check there right now! <BG> I love a mystery! I agree with the person who posted the other reply. If you find no connection to the Bolling family, a donation to the Historical Society would be a great idea.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kEB.2ACI/399.3.1 Message Board Post: Hi.....I'm jumping in here.....I checked Ancestry Census Index for you.....I could NOT find a Bolling using exact spelling or soundex in Vermilion Parish in any year. The closest I found was in St. Mary in like 1860. There weren't many with the exact spelling in any year and they were primarily in the New Orleans area or in North LA. However....I did find in the Vermilion Parish History Book I, pg. 315, within the story of Thomas Scott Winston and Mary Celeste Moss is a sentence that says: "Mary Celeste Winston married Ernest Bolling and settled in Richmond, Virginia." Perhaps this is info you already had, I couldn't tell. So that would give you people ties between Richmond and Vermilion. Mary Celeste had siblings, perhaps you can find some of their descendents. Perhaps Ernest Bolling had siblings. Mary Celeste's siblings remained in Louisiana according to the article in the Vermilion Parish History Book. Good Luck!!

If you do not find any descendants and are looking for a good home for the papers and maps, perhaps you might consider donating them to the library in Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, LA or to the Vermilion Historical Society. If you would like to contact me off-list, my addy is <mag42@airmail.net>. Maude Ann

I suspect that I will not. I get a feeling that their son,Thomas never married. Now I don't know that, but I posted a query on the Richmond board, too, and I have not had any replys at all. I want to find out the connection between the Bollings and Willie Jones, who is now deceased, he was a retired conductor for the railroad back in the sixties. He worked for my dad part time, here in Rihcmond, and one day out of the blue, he just handed my dad this bag of papers and maps, and magazines all about the Bollings and Vermillion, LA. So I have been trying to figure out the connection. Plus, I firgure if I find a descendant, they might like to have this stuff. It's quite a mystery. thank you for your help, and God Bless!

He was an elderly black man who was retired from the railroad as a conductor. Willie gave dad a bag of papers, maps, and magazines one day out of the blue,& recently, my dad just decided to just give them to me. I am trying to figure out the connection between Willie and the Bollings. My thought is to piece together this puzzle. You're right, though, I need to now research more about the Bolling's here in Richmond. Thanks for your interest and your reply. God bless!
