I prefer FAMILY ORIGINS. It was originally marketed by Parsons Technology, but like FAMILY TREEMAKER has gone through several owners--now they are both marketed by genealogy.com. I have both programs, and use Family Treemaker to access material such as Gedcom files that others send me. One thing I do not like about FTM is that when you print out Family Group Sheets you get all those extra pages in order to have the notes or sources. Of course you can copy and paste to isolate them onto another page. Family Origins on the other hand is easier to use for entering notes, other spouses, and printing those Family Group Sheets, where the notes follow the FGS without being on so many separate pages. When printing out Family Group Sheets you have more options...for using black lines or whether to include those notes/sources. And on other reports, there are options for using boxes of various kinds or no outline boxes at all. Also it is much easier for me to export/import gedcoms with FO. With FAMILY ORIGINS when you look at a family, all the children show--you don't have to scroll down to catch more than just 4 children to click on. With FO you can do, as far as I know, all that FTM does. I'm sure I do not know ALL that either of them will do. Ann Harper Bonner
