I do not really research Deans, but I have a few in my data that married into my family. One of my Butler Co., Alabama LEEs--Lucinda LEE--married Andrew Dean in Butler Co. Ala. before 1860, and I believe Andrew's sister Martha married Lucinda's brother William LEE. Andrew Dean was killed in the Civil War, and then his widow Lucinda Lee Dean married Benjamin Norris and they moved to Louisiana before 1880. I know of families named Lee, Burkett, Joiner, Pearce, Franklin, Garrett, Pugh, Myrick, Shepherd, Gay and others who left Butler Co. Ala. (1840s - 1870s) and ended up in Louisiana (Bienville, Red River, DeSoto, and Union Parish). In Butler County, Alabama, they lived in a community not far from Georgiana called STARLINGTON (where I was born). That community was named after STERLING PARKER. Some of the Parker family headed west also. I found Tim's mention of a community in Union Parish called Sterlington very interesting. Does anyone know whom Sterlington, LA was named after? Do not know who Sterlington was named for, but I can venture a guess. I read an account where some pioneers from Marion, AL came to Union Parish and named a small village in their settlement Marion. (I have an aunt who lives near there at Haile.) I would guess that the people who settled Sterlington brought the name with them like the people of Marion did. By the way, Sterlington is only a few miles as the crow flies from my grandparents' place, and my uncle who died last week worked at the LA Power and Light power house there.
