I recently went to the Union Parish Courthouse and searched through some of the original civil court records. I came across a petition for divorce. It was filed by Melvina A. Taylor. She was asking for a divorce from her absent husband, Albert M. Gilbert. I didn't realize until I got home that the paper I copied did not have the date on it. It was in the 1860's, I think. I will be going back to Union Parish at the end of this week. I will get the exact date then. She said she had married him in Alabama in 1849 and later moved to Union Parish. She states in the papers that he is now a fugitive from justice and a habitual drunkard. I believe this Melvina Taylor was probably the sister of my Elizabeth Benjamin Taylor. The James Taylor family bible showed a Melvina Taylor as one of the children of James Taylor and Mary Breedlove. I will be glad to scan a copy for anyone interested. Debbie
