Thomas resided in Kemper County, MS, from 1830-1840, after 1840, he resided in Union Parish, LA. 1809: Thomas Brantley born in Bladen County, NC 1810: Jesse Brantley (Thomas's father) is found living in Bladen Co., NC 1820: James a slave is born 1820: Jesse Brantley is living in Columbus Co., NC 1829: Thomas Brantley marries Caroline Tisdale, Sumter County, SC 1830: Thomas Brantley is living in Sumter County, SC-No Slaves 1830: Jesse Brantley is living in Greene County, Alabama Slaves: 1 male under 10, 1 male 36-55, 1 male 55-100, 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-24, 1 female 24-36. 1833: Caroline Tisdale (Carolines sister) marries William Calvert, Greene County, AL. (the Thomas Brantley family have left S. Carolina following Jesse Brantley). 1837: Kemper County Tax List: Brantley, Jesse (Jr.), Brantley, Jesse (died), Brantley, Thomas. 1838: Thomas Brantley for $1800 paid by Jane Calvert and for the further consideration of the natural love and affection I bear to said Jane Calvert..Brantley sells two certain negro men to wit, Thomas aged about Twenty eight years and James, aged about eighteen years, three head of horsed, twenty five head of cattle and fifth head of hoggs to have and to hold to the sole and individual use of the said Jane Calvert and the heirs of her body by William Calvert, begotten forever..' 6 Jan 1838. 1839: Kemper Co., Ms Tax list: Jesse Brantley, Thomas Brantley, Mary Jane Calvert, William Calvert Jr., William Calvert Sr. 1840: Thomas Brantley is shown on both the Kemper County Census and the Union Parish, LA, Census records. This is as far as I will go on this one because my main question to anybody researching this family is....Was Jesse Brantley married at the time of his death, and if so..what was his wife's name? On the rootsweb world connect, there is a genealogy of this family as also is the same on familysearch.org, but per Ken Brantley, manager of the Brantley Family Association, the lady listed as being married to Jesse, who is Mary O'Rear is incorrect.
